When would you most likely like to attend a tournament?
1000 point tournament in 2011??
EDITED INTO TOURNAMENT RULES
1000 point Warhammer 40k tournament on Saturday January 15th 2010
Schedule
10:30-11:00 set up tables
11:00-1:30 round 1
1:30-3:00 round 2
--lunch intermission--
3:30-5:00 round 3
5:00-6:00 give out prizes; clean up; leave
Prizes will be in the form of gift certificates to the den. There will be an entrance fee of
10$. Prizes will depend on how many are attending. Prizes will be for the 3 top ranking
players, and best painted army. The best painted army will be determined by a ballot
during the lunch break.
Points will be assigned as 3 for a win, 0 for a loss and 1 each for a tie. Players will
receive a painting bonus based on how many of their units are painted: 3 points for fully
painted army, 2 for greater than half, 1 for less than half, and 0 for unpainted. Players will
also mark their opponent's on sportsmanship with a value form 0-3. The average of all 3
numbers will be added to a player's total score.
Rounds will be 1hr 30min, with reminders at 30mins left, 15mins left, and 5mins left.
When time is called, game is immediately stopped. The winner is checked, and we move
on to the next round as quickly as possible.
All 3 rounds will have same mission. There will be 1 objective in center of a 4x6 table,
and 4 other objectives one at the center of each quarter. Primary win condition is holding
more objectives at end of game (round 5/6/7 depending on random game length roll)
or annihilating your opponent’s army. If a game ends by time or end of game roll and
both players control the same number of objectives, then the first tie breaker will be kill
points, and the second will be victory points.
Players will be able to sign up until the morning of, however signing up earlier makes it
much easier to set up properly and to figure out how large the prizes will be.

Re: 1000 point tournament in 2011??
I would be up for this tournament, but first I would have to get a bunch of games in so that I could learn the rules better. As for prizes, what did you have in mind? Gift certificates to the Den, cold hard cash, or something else?
PS if anyone wants to help teach me, aka school me at a game or two ( see what I did there?) I would be quite happy to learn. Just name a time, place, and army and I shall be there with my Guard army. (Up to 1000pts)

Re: 1000 point tournament in 2011??
For a date:: How about Saturday January the 15th from 11am to 6pm?
10:30-11:00 set up tables
11:00-1:30 round 1
1:30-3:00 round 2
--lunch intermission--
3:30-5:00 round 3

As for prizes, Ive found that everyone else's tournaments have chosen gift certificates to the den, so I guess that would work. In that case there would be an entrance fee of 5-10$. There would have to be at least 4-8 players to warrant prizes though.
Points will be assigned as 3 for a win, 0 for a loss and 1 each for a tie. Players will receive a painting bonus based on how many of their units are painted: 3 points for fully painted army, 2 for greater than half, 1 for less than half, and 0 for unpainted. Players will also mark their opponent's on sportsmanship with a value form 0-3. The average of all 3 numbers will be added to a player's total score.
If their are enough players present (closer to 8 or more) there will also be a vote for the best painted army during lunch.
Rounds will be alloted 1hr 30min, with reminders at 30mins left, 15 mins left, 5 mins left. When time is called, game is immediately stopped. The winner is checked, and we move on to the next round as quickly as possible.
All 3 rounds will have same mission. 1 objective in center of a 4x6 table, and 4 others objectives one at the center of each quarter. Primary win condition is holding more objectives at end of game (round 5/6/7 depending on random game length roll) or Table'ing your opponent. If game ends by time or end of game roll, and both players control the same number of objectives, we go to kill points. If that is tied, then it is a tie.
I will call the den and see if they can help advertise, and if the event is succesful enough I would be happy to run them every other month or so in the future. Also, I would only play if there is an odd number of players so that no one has to wait a round out.

Re: 1000 point tournament in 2011??
Well it seems you have thought this through. I'll tentatively say I'm in, but we shall see how the die roll on whether my schedule changes (on a 2+ I'm good ) or if other, unforeseeable circumstances comes up. With the dates you have set above, when is the cut off for signing up?
Also, just wondering about the points and such.... shouldn't a win only be 2? If someone wins 1 game and loses 2, why are they better than the person that ties 2 games and loses the last one? Isn't a tie supposed to be a 50/50 split, and if it is, then why is that person only getting 1/3 of the points? The points for the painting and stuff I can see. If someone spent a lot of time painstakingly painting their army, I think that's better than a win.

Re: 1000 point tournament in 2011??
Ideally ties should not occur whatsoever. but I can't really think of a good 3rd tie-breaker. It adds up to less than a win because no one did win also. So you still get something, but really its 3 poitns for a win, 0 for a loss, and 1 point if you sliightly did not lose.
Actually, a 3rd tie breaker I will use is 'victory points' so if a tie occurs for objectives and kill points, then add up the point cost of everything destroyed, plus 50% of untis below 50% starting strength and immobalized vehicles. IF then the game is absolutely even, then 1 point each.
People could hypothetically sign up untill 11am on that saturday. It would help ALOT though if it could be known sooner whether or not people would like to attend.

Any update on this? "The Kid" and I *may* be able to attend, but we'll have to juggle a few things to make it work. I noticed a signup at the den and 6ish or so people signed up already.

I would imagine so, being that Darren's taking money and has posters all over the store :-)

Re: 1000 point tournament in 2011??
Sorry about not responding, was away from town and not checking e-mail or forums much.
So the tournament is still happening, I know several people have signed up at the den, and others have shown interest.
All information is posted above, and there should also be an identical information sheet at the den.
I myself will only be playing if we end up with an odd number of players, so that no-one would have to sit out.
