Hi, I'm new(ish) in town
Good evening everyone. The name is Yvan (Ivan if you have a hard time with French pronunciation), and I've been in Saskatoon since the fall of last year for school (SIAST). I quit the hobby while I still lived in Regina some years back, near the beginning of the 4th edition rules for 40k. At the time, I liquidated most of my GW stuff, around 7-8k worth of points at the time in eldar, blood angels and grey knights, and a large chunk of high elves for fantasy.
I was talking with a guy in my class, and he mentioned Dragon's Den, since he's a board game fanatic. He had sort of off hand mentioned the store and how he was looking into breaking into the 40k hobby. Suddenly, I was ready to jump back into 40k with both feet. I dusted off some of the stuff I had not managed to get rid of, about 30 guardsmen, a chimera and a LRBT. I had been in the early stages of building an IG army when I quit. This is a blessing for me, because now that I was all ready to get my feet wet again, I wanted to finish the guard army I never did back in the day.
A few weeks ago I stopped into DD on a Wednesday and loitered around for a bit in the back while some people were playing (sorry I don't remember any names, I'm brutal with names!). I found out a few details about league play and basically this took my decision to play again, and solidified it very strongly. Most of the reason I stopped playing to begin with was the lack of a gaming community that I could play in.
As it stands, I'm looking at just under 1000 points or so of assembled & painted guard. I still have quite a bit to put together, and obviously paint. I'm looking forward to getting to play some games, and if anyone here would be willing to point me in the right direction or give me some tips on setting up some games (albeit smaller points for now), that would be great. I have enough in terms of unassembled models that I'm working on to get me over 2000 points, with my eyes set on quite a bit higher as I want to add more tanks, more infantry, commissars and a psyker squad. Until then, I'm busy assembling and painting as my schoolwork allows!
Wow, I type a lot! Sorry about the length there, but I hope to run into some of you guys as I get back into the hobby.

Hey Yvan, welcome! We do have a very large community up here, for sure, and there are lots of people to play! As Rhett said, just post up in thunderdome, you should have no problems finding a game, most days of the week.

Hmm. How does the pronunciation of "Yvan" per French differ from Ivan?
Sometime next week (not this week) I'll gladly have a game with you

Hard to explain the pronunciation thing, ha. As far as games go, I'm likely going to be waiting a couple weeks at least, to A) get a demolisher/vendetta and some special weapons painted up, and B) School just decided to dump a boatload of work on me and C) Re-read the rule book since it's been a long time since my last game (previous edition at that).
Thanks for the welcome, and I'm sure I'll get to know some of you in the next while, as I am extremely interested in getting into the next league when that starts up.

If you are at the Den next wednesday you must explain this difference! I am very curious about it - I'm a purely English speaker but other languages interest me heavily, I've just been too... lazy I guess... to learn other ones. I can usually contort my voice to fit most accents but only if I concentrate really hard
