Calling on thy FLUFF masters

Silly question.

Does the imperial armies conduct wargames at all to hone their skills in battle?

Thinking I want to do some silly batreps/practice game pre-tournament and call them wargames. How do imperial forces conduct wargames even, has anything been written about it in the BL books, or anything? Do they have holo-decks (LOL) or do they fly in on a planet and use the planet as a staging area to practice?

Well that represents actual combat...
I am talking "wargames"... Or in laymans terms, practice....

They talk about "maneuvers" in the gaunts ghosts series. Marines don't "practice" with other imperial armies really, but that shouldn't stop you from coming up with a situation where they might!

By all mean have some war games that's the point. In guard books they talk about space marines leading guardsmen in defense of plants and stuff.

If that is what you want Matt, by all means go with it. One of the nice things about 40k is that they adopt the stance of "at some point everything has happened". As long as it makes sense to you is what matters.

There is actually very little that is "cannon" about 40k. Since all of the history is subjective, nothing is really "fact".
