Players have a "sideboard" of up to X number of selections (2-5, bracketed on points, so 1k or less games you have 2 sideboards, at 3k+ you have 5).
Sideboards can't be more than 25% of the total, or can be none at all.
They are referred to as "Secondary Detachments."
They are used for anything from allies to just additional things from your own codex.
If they are allies, then they require an HQ and a troop, and are still bound by the 25% of total.
Both players are expected to have sideboards.
Sideboarding is now a part of the game, done before deployment but in order of turn priority. So the person going first, picks their sideboard first after learning what race their opponent is playing, and seeing 75% of their army (and the available sideboards).
The person going second then picks their sideboard, after their opponent has selected, but before either side deploys.

So, from what I understand here, you build a "core" army at 75% of the games points, and prepare a selection of sideboards that you then plug into the list?

Ex: 1000 point game, I whip up a 750 pt list and a few 250 pt extras that I can choose once I see who I'm up against? Could be quite interesting for tournaments and such. I definitely prefer this idea to locked percentage values in each category.

Lets say its a 1750 game, and I'm going to use my full 25% for sideboards, so 1312/438

Example Format:

CORE LIST (1312):
HQ
TROOPS
ELITES (write a normal list as usual)
FAST ATTACK
HEAVY

SIDEBOARD SELECTIONS (438):
(any selection of other units totaling 438 points)

1:
HQ
ELITE

2:
TROOPS
TROOPS
TROOPS

3:
TROOPS
FAST ATTACK
HEAVY

Not a problem to do at all if you're writing up a list in a spreadsheet or by hand, but armybuilder might not be able to do it, I dunno I can't stand it so I don't use it. Of course you don't even need to do the sideboard thing if you don't want to. I see little problem here. I also really like how you can only spend up to 25% of points on allies, rather then like when I see people spend more on the allies than are in the core army.

Of course this is all speculation until we see an actual set of rules drop anyways.

If im getting ready for.a game ill usually write 2-3 new lists every time anyway. Im with Ben.. writing lists is a fun part of the hobby for me.

This is actually a good thing as I understand it. Warmahordes has something very similar and I'm told it really helps bring down the cheese factor in tournaments. For example, if you notice your opponent is bringing one of the annoying-stars you can bring in your sideboard to deal with that. In turn this should help make more balanced "core" lists and help put some strategy to the game.

Also by the sounds of it you don't have to bring sideboards if you don't want to. But you'd be giving up a tactical edge by not doing so.

I'd always do it. For Eldar, I'd have anti-tank in the side board, if not, another wave serpent.

I dunno with allies and whatnot I don't see anyone with a 6th edition codex really being left behind. Now that being said of course the people with the least amount of "good" options will benefit the least. Since they are already pigeonholed into certain builds. Although you could say that about the new 'Nids.

In all seriousness for how many years have people wanted: faster book cycles, more options for lists, new unit types. GW does all that with 6th and everyone gets mad. (this second line is in general and isn't directed to you Paz).

They just need to refine the way we play with all the new shinies. I like the accelerated cycle but not at the cost of mechanics. Given some time I think things will get better.

Another interesting tid-bit.

It would be kinda cool and it would lead me to totally have to rebuilt my simple little list building spreadsheet. No more HQ & 2 Troops plus whatever else in my spreadsheet. LOL

I could see spamming of tiny units of troops....but they again, you could just have a single Uber expensive one as well. I like the "fix" that named HQ can break the points limit.....it makes them all useable in any game rather then "I only want to play X points so that I can have this dude in my list".

so far everything i've seen has been pure speculation. no leaked photos, no early italian copies, not even an early white dwarf with anything but that commisar on it.

24th might turn out to be an imperial guard supplement for all we really know.

I love how nobody has mentioned that new discipline, Daemonology. Not available to nids, and you can summon demons using it... Cant wait for my Farseer to start summoning demons, or to see Grey Knights summoning demons to fight Orks.
