1 Down, 12 to go (+2 sorc's). Almost as fun to paint as Thiessen's guys.

No clue what I'm going to do for bases yet though.

Good call. Maybe some crystals or something?

crystals, or something swampy. i'd lean to swampy because crystals might take people's eyes off your model and more to the base. something in a swamp theme will give you muted colors and a nice design (there's several swamp theme bases and flocking material to choose from) that would help to push people's eyes up to the model yet still look appealing.

off the top of my head.....i would pick a texture paint, like lustrian undergrowth (its a green), and goop it on real good in spots. then maybe drybrush the ridges of that with underhive ash (kind of a pukey tan color? hard to describe). afterwards, i'd use some of those premade tufts of flock that Army Painter has; maybe Swamp Tuft. that way all your choices are at the den and easily available, and not on mail order.

That, or there is always sand, for the whole pharaoh look thing they have going.
