Land Raider Spartan Rules

ARMOR
BS 4 Front 14 Side 14 Rear 14 HP 5

UNIT COMPOSITION
• 1 Spartan Assault Tank

UNIT TYPE
• Vehicle, Tank, Transport

TRANSPORT CAPACITY
• The Spartan has a transport capacity of 25 models.

ACCESS POINTS
• The Spartan has one access point at the front and two on each side.

WARGEAR
• Two sponson-mounted quad lascannon
• Hull-mounted twin-linked heavy bolter
• Searchlight
• Smoke launchers
• Extra Armour

SPECIAL RULES
• Power of the Machine Spirit
• Assault Vehicle

OPTIONS
• A Spartan may exchange its hull-mounted twin-linked heavy bolter for:
- Twin-linked heavy flamer .................................................................. Free
• A Spartan may exchange its Quad lascannon sponsons for:
- Laser Destroyers ............................................................................... Free
• A Spartan may take any of the following:
- Frag Assault Launchers ................................................................ +10 points
- Hunter-killer missile ................................................................ +10 points
- Armoured ceramite ................................................................ +20 points
• A Spartan may take one of the following pintle-mounted weapons:
- Storm bolter ............................................................................. +5 points
- Heavy flamer .......................................................................... +15 points
- Heavy bolter ........................................................................... +15 points
- Multi-melta ............................................................................+20 points

CHAOS VARIANT OPTIONS
Chaos Spartan Assault Tanks are identical to the profile above, except that they do not have the Power of the Machine Spirit rule and may only use the options below.

- Reaper autocannon .......................................................................... Free
• A Chaos Spartan may take:
- Daemonic Possession .............................................................. +20 points
• Take one of the following pintle-mounted weapons:

- Twin-linked bolter .....................................................................+5 points
- Heavy flamer .......................................................................... +15 points
- Heavy bolter ........................................................................... +15 points
- Multi-melta ............................................................................+20 points

AMOURED CERAMITE
Weapons with the Melta special rules may never roll an additional D6 against a vehicle with Armoured Ceramite.

Weapon Descriptions
Quad lascannon 48” Range, Str 9, AP 2, Heavy 2, Twin-linked
Laser Destroyer 36” Range, Str 9, AP 2, Heavy 1, Ordnance*, Twin-linked
*Note: This weapon has no blast, but benefits from the Ordnance rule’s increased ability to penetrate armour.

A Spartan is a Heavy Support choice in a Space Marines, Black Templars, Dark Angels, Blood Angels, Space Wolves, and Chaos Marines army.

And its far, far better for Templars, Chaos and Wolves, who can take advantage of that capacity.

yea but for loyalists who play land raiders already, thats just another 45 points more than a normal raider. most of the time we look for something stupid thats worth 50 points to fill out our lists with, like a single speeder or attack bike. now we get the option of just using that point gap to take land raiders big brother Very Happy

It is fantastic.. For a few reasons..

Only thing with 5 hull points..
Ceramite
25 models

With the new rules you get a squad of 5 chaos termies and 10 berserkers in there with a lord still.

I dont like the chaos version being the same points minus the machine spirit.. But.. Its also awesome.

It might actually be to awesome.. ? Between this and Sevrin.. Im rethinking the forgeworld is overcosted tjepry..

FW doesn't have a over-costed tjepry. They have a cost balance tjepry.

Doesn't stop Armourbane. Any S9 or S10 weapons will still suppress or pop it. 200-225 points is the most people should spend on a single model. That quad las cannon would be nice vs flyers though.

This one is news to me, as well. I had heard that if you split a 10 man squad into two 5 man teams they could still share a rhino, but I hadn't heard elsewise.

System commander is wrong. You can't share a vehicle with another unit. Only marines can do it with combat squading. Don't have my book right now though.

Ahhh.. K. That makes sense. I think my brain just made an assumption when i saw that before.

challenge dan and his lists that normally take 2+ land raiders and ask him to play them as spartans mark; then tell us if you think the costs is too much or just right Razz

land raiders done proper and not just charged into a strong melee unit that can hurt it are a P.I.T.A. to get rid of.

i think the laser destroyers could be interesting to play, despite the drop in range to 36"; having the bonus D6 you roll at the same time and picking the higher result out of the 2 dice on an AP 2 gun should have a better chance of killing things

Uhg, I hated facing that ONE Landraider. At least hull points makes it a bit more manageable for me.

Being that I tabled Dan's double land raider list, I don't think the extra points spent would help. Although, as a Necron player, that's not really a fair question.
