Picked up the last defiler i needed on sunday to field this.

6(7) Dreadnought equivalents, 3(5) monstrous creatures. melta.

with the faq for chaos dreads it almost seems viable.

I'm low on troops, but high on smashy smashy. the list is more rounded out @ 1750 but i think that at 1500, some folks are going to have trouble with all that mech and DCCW's.
princes could be given nurgle and psychic powers and such. but meh.

**edited for 6th edition** if 495 detachment is used, one champ or prince will receive an icon to guide in the Daemons.

Trying to do no lash. the list is definitely better with lash in it. but i figure its probably a bit much.

the one problem i have with it there is very little in he way of alpha strike capability. against say, Tim's marine army. its going to be turn 3 before anything but the princes and the GD are anywhere near his gunline.

or do you just sit at max range with all that smashy stuff and drop pieplates on things?

It would be rather intimidating so have to set up your army on the opposite side of all of that.

you could easily setup those defilers as the central core of your deployment, with the demons hanging back near them to protect from any outflanking or deepstriking elements that would try to come in and hurt your defilers. it also allows you the benefit that your castling with 3 pieplates hurting your enemy alot as he tries to come in close enough to hurt you, only to find himself now in assault range of those demons that hanged back. the winged demon prince would especially be good for that tactic. and then you can have your dreads move forward as a pre-emptive strike on your opponent's army as they try to close in, only to have the multi meltas pop their transports and now they have to run forward under pie plate hell. that list has good possibilities, and if you focus on playing it alot, it could become a tough nut to crack once you've learned the ins and outs of it.

i could find points for a second set of wings, Lash even, if i dug deep enough.

Bah, it deep-strikes in and gets its shot off anyway :-)

I think it's a cool list and would be fun to play. Some armies struggle to kill AV12 stuff, and others don't. Melta-heavy lists will likely be your bane. But hey, when your movement phase only involves a handful of models, your games will go super-quick one way or the other!

I'm not the only one stoked about the The FAQ for chaos dreads. It has probably re-energized at least few of the old pewter beasts that have been wallowing in the dusty confines of chaos players basements for years.

I'm going to field this tonight and see how it goes.

2x winged prince
1x greater daemon
3x dreadnought 2x MM 1xplasma cannon
1 unit of three oblits (3rd defiler is under construction)
2x Defilers
1 unit of msu melta plagues /w x fist champ - rhino
1 unit of marines /w naked champ + meltagun -rhino
2 x 10 marines /w lascannon/plasma gun to hold home objectives.

Since i am short one defiler until my Scorpion project is finished, i was temped to drop a land raider in there with a unit of zerkers. But zerkers always disapoint

I find building a list for this is rough. you have roughly 1150 points of monsters and mech. then you gotta put some squishys on the table to do things like.... score and stuff. at some point you just start watering the effect down. i think i like 1750 more than 1500, or 2000. 6th edition chaos book must give me access to Blight Drones!

first test - inconclusive.

Annihilation mission vs GK army with 6 kill points available. Loss /w opponent having 3 models on table on turn 6.
I made the mistake of believing that 2 daemon princes, a greater daemon and two dreadnoughts could survive assaulting a unit of 5 paladins /w draigo

It was good to play against, regardless of the outcome. its only my second match against GK's. I learned a lot, and Ian is a good guy.
Given a rematch or three, I'm fairly confidant that i could win against this in the future.

The nice thing about this list is that it can move and shoot as well as assault, so while its a 6in move army, its a mobile one.
I do need a faster platform for melta. Perhaps more msu plagues =/ GW. gimmeh some speeders!
