so they've made an interactive section that lets you choose an army, and see who's allowed to be taken as an ally. some of the choices are surprising:

SPACE MARINES ALLIES:

  • Black Templar

  • Grey Knights
  • Sisters of Battle

  • Dark Eldar
  • Necrons

The last 3 i was surprised to see on there.

it looks like some nice combinations can be done, several of which seem unexpected.

I dont undwrstand some of those options.. Dont understand at all..

That neing said.. I like the idea of being allowed more optoons then less. I love that guard can ally with chaos

Something truly intriguing about being able to take and ork and daemon list though.. Damn.. Ill have to think long and hard about that one... Smile

There are three "types" of allies.

Brothers in Arms (or something like that)
Begrudging Allies
and Distrustful Allies.

Brothers in Arms can fight together and their wargear / psychic powers can benefit each other
Begrudging Allies (The Orks, in most cases) means that they can only work with themselves on the field
Distrustful Allies, if within 6" at the start of the turn, have to take an LD test to be able to do things.

There's a dude with a rulebook doing an AMA on reddit.

So it's following (roughly) the Doubles rules....
SMH, which mean Imperium now gets auto FNP troops (from Blood Angels), Leman Russ Squadrons, Storm Talons to escort their Valk, (or Valks to carry thier Termies), Long Fangs and Grey Hunters, Psyflemen....

And Nids get nuttin'.

For casual/campaign type play, great narritive, fun.

For tourneys? No allies. I think this isn't even one to think about.

Wow, on their lists of who can ally with who they aren't even the least bit subtle about the "BUY ALL THESE NOW PLEASE" of the system.

I was confused by the Imperial Guard allies for Chaos....but then I remembered all those pretty corrupted Guard models that Forgeworld sells.....they will all have a proper home now.

I'm not a fan of some of the ally options. I agree some of them make no sense at all. Out of all the changes 6th is bringing this has to be the one that interests me the most. Sure it's all a marketing gimmic but it gives players that buy figs just because there cool a chance to actually build and play thoes random box sets without investing more cash into the hobby.

My top random box sets that might see the light of day:
Box of guardsmen (bought when the cadians first came out)
Old sentinel (bought on sale with a yellowed price tag on box)
Box of ork storm boyz (won at a tournament a few years ago)

Except Vector Strike might just be profile strength with AP3 and no extra dice for pen. 100% less cool than Surfboard Lords. Smash is actually a nerf, not a buff (well, it makes the nerf less of a nerf.)

Now, the psychic powers might be dumb... I'll grant you that. I might have to buy a Tomb Spyder or two to keep my 'crons competative.

DA and SW will still ally as needed, they are still loyal battle brothers. The rivalry between them is really more of a friendly honor thing. Granted the Dark Angels take it a bit more seriously than the Wolves, but that's just how they roll.

Its very obvious with how allie are going they want beer and pretzels over tourney. Not only does it open up a lot of broken builds, but stronger codexes can take allies, and one that is consider weak can;t take any?

I *am* eying up Ork/Guard or Guard/orks..... Counts as LatD?

Tom: They'd only do that if they are battlebrothers, which is likely limited to Imperium gang and CSM/Daemons.
