Re: Top 10 40k units
good list. decent look at the results.
I would add the Drop Pod to the list. a lot of whats wrong in the world can be attributed to Drop Pod assault rules.
surprised Chapter_Master_Smashfucker isn't on the list.

Re: Top 10 40k units
Was there a sarcasm filter on I didn't see? Cuz we all know Drop Pods were fine before DPA, everyone had pods then.
The only problem with Drop Pod Assault is it should be renamed "Astartes Assault" and Pods, Jump Packs and Termies should all have it.
And yes Smashfucker should be on there. I agree with most of the list, but a few units made me laugh. Warhound Titan at #15 or what not. I also notice not a single flyer on the list.

Re: Top 10 40k units
no. its something i've personally decided just recently isn't good for the game.
drop pods are too cheap and theres not enough risk involved. it was ok when marines were a meh army. but the recent codexes and things like grav make them nuts. it was one thing when you had to worry about a couple of guys with melta jumping out. now its relentless grav centurians, and terminators... who already have Deepstrike how good does that make a device when you can pay a paltry 35 points to give a unit the same rule it already has... only amazingly better.
if they had to roll for reserves and come in on turn two like everyone else... dunno. thats just me.
Its so good that i'm willing to pay 100 points for dreadclaws that have a chance to Eat the guys inside. so I'm not talking down to anyone who plays them

Re: Top 10 40k units
If it's Grav Cents or Termies, the issue isn't DPA or the cost. It's being a FA slot. On that, we can agree. I'm not a huge fan of the "FA transport" trend. Maybe if they just went whole hog and said "no dedicated transports."
And yes I agree they are undercosted. 50 ppts would make it more of a choice.
I find the inclusion of the KX139 as the only FW unit weird. No Sicaran? No contemptors? No Loth? No FW flyers?
I think the scariest thing on this list is the fact you can make a battleforged list, either CAD or decurion, out of the top 2.

The other thing that made Drop-Pods better, was Objective Secured.
Now, you can drop a pod within 3" of an objective semi-reliably ( > 50% chance) and blammo your poor opponent has to spend time with an AV12 thing that he would otherwise ignore.
I think our local list might be a bit different due to lack of Lords of War (Wraithknight), and how many people have been eaten by Wraiths lately. :-)

I'm amazed "culexus in pod" isn't on that list.
Used that yesterday, pretty bonkers, completely shuts down psykers

I think part of the frustration with Drop pods is that every other faction has to deal with "Dave the late driver" not showing up with your reserves till turn 4. If the future is only war hurry up and get on with it people!
