White Dwarf.. the debate !

So, my fun adventure with White Dwarf continues.

For those that dont know, when i was doing work for GW as a grey knight, it came with a subscription to white dwarf and a copy of every new codex. When the program ended.. oh.. 5 years ago, i thought that would stop. The codices did but the dwarves kept coming. Even when they shifted all north american distribution back to memphis.

I thought the gravy train had ended with the switch. Nope.. my new issue of visions came yesterday along with a teaser copy of the weekly. Al showed them to me last week so there were no surprises. I am however really surprised at the outrage.

I really like visions.. but for me my favorite articles were always the golden daemon coverage and army displays. I dedinitely dont agree with the price to get everything a month.. but im not opposed to buying visions every month. Whhich is funny since i get it for free now.

The weekly will be a mix.. sometimes good.. sometimes bad. Once a week though.. thats alot to get. Maybe digital for tge weekly?

What do you guys think? Lots of bitterness in the community about it.

I think the weekly release will push more people to digital, and given that has been their most recent strategy, it's not very surprising. I took a look at the weekly and it's not bad but it's basically a throw away so you might as well get digital. Haven't seen the "Visions" yet so can't comment but I hope to check it out tomorrow.

My digital subscription switched to Visions.

Visions is fantastic. It's also huge. It's a lot of content and isn't as salesy as White Dwarf was. More painting and stuff.

I don't mind dropping a couple bucks on a weekly if it's got something I want.

Internet people are outraged? These are probably descendants of people who are pissed that the car industry wrecked ma and pa's horse & carriage company.

Yeah.. its bizarre. Theres is alot of hate towards Visions. No ads which is spectacular. Im a fan!

Same here, my digital copy is all fucked. I get the cover page and the instruction page to turn my iPad to landscape and that's it. Yet the contents tab shows all the titles, and it showed its a 300mb file to download. So far, not impressed with that. Especially since I enjoy reading the paint splatter sections and wanted to see what they were gonna have this book

I question the outrage. its not like WD has been good for anything but looking at pictures in recent memory. the days of Chapter approved have been over for the better part of a decade.

Its not necessary to play the game, so GW can do whatever they want with the mag. i haven't bought one in years and years.

I flipped through and thought it mediocre at best but with potential. Some expanded and better painting stuff would be great, and I'd like them so start showcasing some of the real awesome stuff they have access too. They're full spreads on some pretty middle of the road stuff throughout and if they'd make a tiny effort they could make the magazine mighty.

People get pissy about the price tag but they always do.

Good points Scott. There was a lot of recycled content from January's White Dwarf. I'm hoping for more painting tutorial type stuff in there too. With all the pages they dedicated to painting, I'm hopeful!

found a solution. apparently there was an update for the app which came out after the magazine. download it and you should be good.
