Frontline Gaming Throwdown
Reece from frontline gaming is willing to put his money where his mouth is for the 'Nids codex.
Should be interesting.

Jy2 has a good looking article.
I like the concept of the 9-fex list with some zoo's and a venomthrope for shrouded.
Q. Brainleech Devourerer's on a 'fex are S9? (S User? or S6?)

Re: Frontline Gaming Throwdown
Oddly enough I think Reece accidentally underscored one of the largest changes with 'Nids in their 6th codex. Needing way more synapse than before.
In my 1500 list I was running just swarmy, a flyrant, and a tervigon for synapse. Without access to Biomancy to make the Swarmlord tougher, that is not nearly enough synapse (also having guarenteed catalyst on the tervigon so she could park in some cover for 5+/5+fnp). And that was 450ish points worth that I expected to keep everything in order. The flyrant I don't count. The shitty thing is that none of the synapse options are really good. Tyrants you want flying ahead, tervigons are to expensive (and a huge target especially to get the 12" explode on termigants), Warriors are the same as before (T4 W3 is rough), Zoanthropes are in the same as warriors, Trygon Primes are really expensive and again, want them beating face not babysitting.
I am kind of at a loss for what would be considered a "good" unit for synapse. I suppose most people will be going with Zoanthropes. I just don't particularly like them.
There is some good stuff in the codex. I hope that someone comes up with some awesome builds so I can just add a couple of models and rebuild my list. However, I will have to do it without the swarmlord since he (IMO) is no longer close to a competitive choice. And that right there has put me off of them for a while. He was my favorite part of the whole army. His fluff was just awesome. Not to mention able to go toe-to-toe with the baddest of the bad.
@ Mark - I don't believe and of the 'Nid shooting weapons are S-user. Haven't been since 4th? Unless I missed something. Still they put out a lot of S6 shooting.

Re: Frontline Gaming Throwdown
A big wall of text of positives!! This makes me happy, I've been getting tired of the doom and gloom over the new dex. I admit I'm gonna miss biomancy (especially as at Mark's last tourney I rolled the perfect psychic setup on Swarmlord and he was INSANE)
I haven't really had time to sit down and digest (huehuehue) the new book or play a game yet but I'm optimistic. I'm a Tyranind player, I adapt and overcome, dammit! I can assure you that the Haruspex and Exocrine will be showing up regularly though

I think the Exocrine is really strong, you just have to solve the Synapse riddle.

I'm 3 minutes into the BTP review of the new dex, and I must say, I am amused by Shawn's approach.

i'm not sure about flyrants. looks like you really just need to swarm shit. take some tyrant guard for ablative wounds and cover the entire board in bugs. Run your shit over there en masse and eat peoples.

2 Flyrants, 6 Zoo's, a Venomthrope, 90 'Gaunts, 2 tervigons, some number of fex's and exocrines?

Re: Frontline Gaming Throwdown
I don't have access to points on everything yet, but from what I understand of the book, and the need for synapse, this might work as a list. I would presume it falls in the 1500 pts range.
Dakka flyrant x2 (synapse), 30x termigants (10x spine fist, 20x devourer), 2x tervigon (synapse), 2xMin dakka warriors (synapse), full dakka-fex brood, venomthrope brood.
Flyrants try to alpha strike major threats to the swarm, Tervigons hug board edges as the move up the sides of the field saturating with gaunts, purchased gaunt squad provides 5+ cover to the dakka-fex brood which gets boosted by the venoms to 3+, while the warrior squads both escort this central formation for a total of 6 synapse producing bodies holding the core together. Toss in Raveners to follow after the flyrants for additional early pressure.
Would that work? Six total sources of synapse should help to hold things together.

Re: Frontline Gaming Throwdown
Agree with all but the Warriors.
T4 with a 4+ save... just dying to be ID'd by S8 shooting. (Railguns, Hades Autocannons, Krak Missiles, Bright Lances || Almost every army packs some S8 of some flavour!)
Drop the warriors for moar numbers or some Zoooos (also synapse)

Re: Frontline Gaming Throwdown
Zoans are just as vulnerable to STR 8 as warriors, assuming the absence of ignores cover on said str 8. Warriors bring with them shooting that is not tied to a leadership test and are scoring.

i'll drop a copy into my dropbox folder for those that have access to it. the .epub is much better, but for those without calibre or a good reader, the .pdf is ok.

Bah, seems that Tervigons are still indeed 1-to-1 for unlocking as troops.

Re: Frontline Gaming Throwdown
Ok, with points in hand now, the afformentioned list sits closer to 2k than 1500, in part because of the second squad of gaunts needed for the second Tervigon.
HQ:
Flyrant, 2x TL Brain Devourers. 240 pts
Flyrant, 2x TL Brain Devourers. 240 pts
Troops:
Termagaunts x30, Devourer x15, Adrenal Glands. 240 pts
Termagaunts x30. 120 pts
Tervigon. 195 pts
Tervigon. 195 pts
Tyranid Warriors x3, Barbed Strangler. 100 pts
Tyranid Warriors x3, Barbed Strangler. 100 pts
Elites:
Venomthrope. 45 pts
Venomthrope. 45 pts
Heavy Support:
Carnifex x3, Heavy Venom Cannon x3, Stranglethorn Cannon x3. 465 pts
1985 pts total.
I figure splitting up the Venomthrope brood makes sense so that if 3 Str 8 wounds rolls through the cover saves, that's one instant death and 2 overkills, as opposed to icing both of them. Probably has lots of room for tuning, but I think it might be able to hold up.

l would swap the adrenal to the pure fleshborer gaunts. if your buy devourers no point spending points to throw them at the enemy, let them hang back and unload the silly 45 shots they get. also carnifex cant take both heavy weapons they are limited to 1 of either.

Ah, I missed the limit on the Bio Cannons because of GW's obnoxious epub formatting and thinking 72 pt font is a good idea.
