The first chaos model i ever bought was a cypher.. tben a box of.berserkers to go with him in my Imperial guard. I think i got.to use him like 2-3 times before the rules changed.. but ive been sitting on that damn painted model for a loooooooooong time. Ill be happy to dust him off for a spin.

i think hed be cool with 6th rules. as it is, Cypher is probably going to end up being a crappier version of Huron with no claw and a plasma pistol. but the model is cool.

Cypher can be selected as part of a primary detachment from the following codexes: Codex:
Adepta Sororitas, Codex: Blood Angels, Codex: Chaos Space Marines, Codex: Grey Knights,
Codex: Imperial Guard, Codex: Inquisition, Codex: Space Marines or Codex: Space Wolves.
Cypher does not take up any slots from the detachment’s Force Organisation chart. He may
not be included in an army that includes any models from Codex: Dark Angels.

WS7 BS10 S4 T4 W3 I8 A3 LD10 3+
dark angels go batshit, can shoot his pistols twice each or shoot once and run. When overwatching shoots at full BS

In assault half his CC attacks are S4 AP5 and half are S7 AP2

has eternal warrior, infiltrate, shrouded.

hes worth d3 extra victory points to his controller at the start of the game if he doesnt die. if an apponent kills him while there is a model within 6 inches of him, hes considered captured and that opponent earns d3 victory points. (dark angels get a straight 3 VP's for capturing him) If you kill him and hes not within 6 inches, he awards Zero victory points.

... and the sheet is a two parter, you can take Cypher with a formation of Chosen. the Chosen are exactly like CSM chosen, except that they have ATSKNF!!! .. and can't take marks or gifts.

Sure you get 6 new missions around Cypher, but really that is a lot of money. Especially since the only people it really gouges are the ones who already have the model and would like to use it again...

He has, and confers "And they shall know no Fear" to Chaos Space Marines. He may *not* be the warlord and does not count as an HQ slot. He has Shrouded because of his sword he never uses (mmm.... 5+ cover save in the open for a unit of CSM).

He literally fixes the CSM book.

His Formation sucks, because it's chosen and they aren't scoring.

I'm going to have to paint my Cypher now tho. He's kindof a big deal. (Not OP, he's still T4 with 3 wounds)

This makes me want to make a 30k dark angels/40k fallen army. I'm fairly certain you could do a pretty decent list with CSM or SM.

Overall, I think the new units are okay. Formations.... Eh. Only REALLY broken one is the Tau one. I think i have a fix.

Clarification

He confers it to units within 12" if he's taken in his formation (which is otherwise, bad, as it's him and 1-3 units of non-scoring chosen -- blech -- although they do get infiltrate, so there's that).

He has ATSKNF, and it does confer to the unit he joins (so one unit of dudes can get ATSKNF) and he has infiltrate... so... outflanking (or infiltrating) 20 man CSM blob with shrouded? yes please.

He drops the leadership characteristic of your warlord by 1. I guess this could be kindof a big deal if not managed correctly.

Detachment formation rules suck. if they were considered part of the primary detachment, you could use these guys as Black legion chosen and have scoring, infiltrating ATSKNF LD 10 chosen that might actually be worth thier points.

one thing i missed the first time, is that Cypher has Hit and Run as well... so yeah. hes gud.
Just needs an invul of some kind. too many things could care less about cover or shrouded.

i'm thinking hes a pretty good candidate for leading a blob squad of guard too.
