Joining a Riptide
As a Riptide *can* be a unit of more than one model, what are peoples opinions of joining an IC to it, like a Farseer or a Tau Commander?
Similar with a Carnifex, can you join the Swarmlord to a 'fex?
Exact rule is unclear.

Re: Joining a Riptide
Swarmlord is a bad example. I think you are looking for Tyranid Prime (it is the only Tyranid unit that is currently an Independent Character). The Swarmlord(or Hive Tyrant) can join a tyrant guard brood and then functions like an independent character (except they cannot leave). Its weird that way. Hive Tyrants (including the Swarmlord) are just characters, they don't get the independent portion of the rule.
But yes the rule is currently unclear. I don't mind either way since I don't plan on joining anything like that.
I should totally run a brood of 3 'fexes and a prime next tournament.

I believe it is legal as RAW, but I don't think it's RAI. Tyson is running something similar I believes.

I had a stark realization that if I join a Tau commander to a unit of Eldar, then they can't battle focus, which is kindof a big deal. Looking at my options. (Might spring for a missile drone).

Massive amounts of Kroot and positional relays on urything. Think about it.Lore Weaver wrote:I had a stark realization that if I join a Tau commander to a unit of Eldar, then they can't battle focus, which is kindof a big deal. Looking at my options. (Might spring for a missile drone).

You don't even need the relays on everything, just on a Riptide. Blast it 4d6" on your first assault move and get into the back corner of the enemy deployment. Their table edge is now also your entry edge.

Why take the chance? You might as well have a failsafe since, after all, they are a 5 point piece of wargear.Planes wrote:You don't even need the relays on everything, just on a Riptide. Re: Joining a Riptide
Right, two Riptides with Relays, then. One running up each side.

Re: Joining a Riptide
Well, clearly you need 4 then. Just drop those Kroot, they eat up so many points that you need for your Riptides.

Re: Joining a Riptide
The Riptide doesn't need to be part of the equation. I might have a different solution...
