Trim off the sides of the foot pad.
Add some knee guards. How the hell can they bend their knees? There's no joint!!
Add a paper bag to the head.

Re: Centurions fixed
looked into the foot bit. theres a big toe on the back with a piston thing, so cutting the sides would look super stupid.
there is a joint at the knee. its that line across the middle of the leg. this one is standing still so they look solid.
paz mentioned the idea of a cowl over the head like a terminator has, but i dont have any spare bits that are the right size to make one that looks good. the fact he's a suit in a bigger exosuit however, i prefer the way the head looks. its 'supposed' to look like his head is small, since as you assemble the legs you can freely see much smaller legs in the back of the armour.
removing the extra padding on the thighs definitely slims him down though, as a dry fit of the part made him look very chunky. i'm playing with ides of a cut up piece, dry fitting either just the smaller side bits onto the leg, or taking one of the smaller bits to use as a cod piece. gonna wait til the rest of the body is assembled first to see if it over bulks the body though.

here's the 2nd guy, gonna be the sergeant. left off most of the servo pistons and stuff to make it easier to get the basecoat painted on so there's no exposed plastic. this time i took one of the crotch guards and cut it into the 3 separate pieces and added them on so they're less chunky in the sack
Re: Centurions fixed
They look decent without the arm attachments, but once you put those on they get goofy. Well that and the crotch guard.
If I were to field I would seriously consider trying one with some shoulder mounts.
I want to add some new space marines for a potential Grey Knight ally, no idea what that might mean yet, but Centurions jump out.

Re: Centurions fixed
i think you could get around the arm bit by still doing them as arms, robyn. they dont have a power fist, its just a big bulky arm to mount the gun onto, so if you were to cut the arm at the elbow and make the guns themselves make up the forearm instead of being attached to it, that would also work well. you just lose the nice lineups of the power cables doing that. but Zinge Industries sells flexible lengths of cabling just like these for a great price and you'd get enough for all 3 from a single length and still have more to spare, so you could run your own lengths and still make it look good. maybe even add more to make them look more techy and take the eye off the bulk.
Re: Centurions fixed
I'm def gonna tackle these brutes, they are so close to being cool, just need a bit of a redesign.
My centurion sketch
This is how I'd do the new sm centurions! Or how I will do them :p
Also thinking of moving the missiles onto the back like termi's

A MAX suit from Planetside 2? Could be one way to go.

I had a look at Aidan's kit. Not sure how he wants to build them, but if you left off all the leg-plates, it'd look a bit like a mini-dreadknight.

Re: Centurions fixed
i actually think it represents what they were going for pretty well. the exo-suit is supposed to be bulky "ablative armour" that soaks up hits and they are not supposed to be very mobile. now. slow-ass "suits in suits" just end up looking like metal panda-bears once you get too many layers on them.
I actually think they missed out on a chance to do something really interesting with them. use the ablative narrative and give the models like 5 wounds and just a 3+ armour save. and reduce mobility beyond slow and purposeful.. which is an awful rule for a shooting based unit because it takes out overwatch.

Re: Centurions fixed
muuuch better Ben, that guy is on the money.
I was totes at the den today, ready to buy these guys and do some heavy retrofitting, but mine eyes caught sight of the wraithknight, and I came to the (obvious) conclusion that maybe I should finish my eldar before starting Space marines.
The Knight requires a lot of cutting to get any kind of pose outta this guy. All I can say is the hips are a super dumb design. guhh.

Re: Centurions fixed
i like the idea witht he fists he did, but i wouldnt do it with the missiles. instead, i think i'd trim the guns down and place them there instead. on the grav cannons, it would mean cutting them just behind the capaciter barrel in the center of the gun. i think that might look good. ideas for the next box i buy if i really like how they play.
Re: Centurions fixed
this is fromt he paint guide to show what its like without the leg armour in place. they also recommend not glueing that part on until your done all the metal bits.
Re: Centurions fixed
Camera sort of white washed the green of his lenses, but you get the general idea of the progress so far:
Re: Centurions fixed
Is it just me, or does leaving the leg guards/plates off make the model suddenly look way better?

Re: Centurions fixed
its not you. most of the internets is saying the same thing. its just the way they decided to mold those 3 panels together that really make the model look stupid. once you get past that, there's alot of potential for the models. The fists are just misleading still, though, since they're just big hands and dont act as power fists or anything. i think the next time i make a box, i'm going to replace the forearms with the guns instead. that or integrate the front barrel half of them into the forearms where the "finger" bits are. Probably make an order from Zinge Industries for posable cable bundles too so i can redo the cabling after moving the guns.
