Eldar battle the forces of the Warp
Dallas and I had a pretty epic game on Saturday.
Kairos is good, I know Kairos is good, but being on the other side of Kairos makes me appreciate it a bit more.
Re-rolling the Warp Storm result is kindof amazing.
In my list I had an Assassatarch with Hawk Wings (I know, jetbike's better, but I had a winged guy and wanted to try him out).
First turn, Warp Storm, Dallas rolls an 8, and proceeds to roll a "6" on my Assassatarch, getting D6 S6 AP- Rending hits on him. He rolls a "6" for six hits. Gets 4 wounds and a Rending wound. So, dude gets instagibbed (as the Mantle doesn't help against ignores cover wounds!) Dallas also manages to Stun my Fire Prism as well.
Not bad, especially given that I got to go second :-P I move some stuff around, the Wraithknight goes and gibs 4 plague flies (5 attacks, 3 hits, 2 wounds, failed demonic instability with a roll of 10 and -4). Flag guy lived, however, and popped out the Great Unclean one with no scatter.
Warpstorm comes up, Dallas rolls a 7, and against my "wisdom", Dallas re-rolls and gets an 11, killing my farseer (Thankfully, Dallas is too cheap to buy a Herald model! *laughs*).
So first two Warp Storm rolls for Dallas and he wiped out all my HQ (worth 275 points total), so I was basically at a handicap because of it. Great Unclean One on turn three assaulted and killed the Wraith Knight (Warp Speed and he had the fleshbane thing. My Wraith Knight couldn't get away as he was stuck in with the plague flies, as Dallas very smartly used the Book on them to grant a 3++ save)
I almost pulled out a victory with the Warp Spiders, Guardians, and Wave Serpents, but the Daemon Princes just proved to be too much for me to handle and I eventually got worn down.
All in all, a goot 6-4 victory for Dallas. A close match... ++REMATCH++ *ROAR*

Re: Eldar battle the forces of the Warp
I got to face against the very same list right after. While it had to get called early due to the Den closing, it was clear that he was going to dominate my army due to a fundamental lack of shooting. Has I been able to get any of those FMCs grounded, I could have gibbed them, but I had no way of doing so, and he had no intention of coming down to the ground floor. The Plague Flies weathered the Scarabs remarkably well, I must say.
All in all, I think this shows me a need to move away from the gimmick of "all melee, all the time!" and "move phase, second move phase, assault phase" to something a smidgen more well rounded.
Looks like both me and Mark would be down for a rematch with you some time, Dallas! In retrospect, I can't believe that the list I ran against you was the only one not sporting a Gloom Prism.

Re: Eldar battle the forces of the Warp
The warpstorm table hates me.. although at the doubles tourney ... it was my best friend. It helped I gpt the reroll warpstorm table rolls twice for my warlord.
In our game vs. Tom and Adam I got khornes wrath.. killed two crisis suits. The unit.broke and jumped off the table.. taking both warlords and all their buddies with them. Ha !
The table was the only thing the made the game at least a challenge for tom and adam.. they were on course to have us wiped out.pretty quick.

I'm sure that next time the char upgrade in my squad of flys wont be able to defeat a destroyer lord in a single round of combat...

Re: Eldar battle the forces of the Warp
I'm pretty sure those flies had made it onto the prestigious list of "things not to charge scarabs into", and that's saying something, as I would charge them into a Swarm Lord or Wraith Knight without even blinking an eyelash.

Do the Orpheus scarabs lose Entropic Strike? If so, just chuck a walker at them and laugh, or anything with a S6 melee attack. Ork Nobz with 'Uge Choppa's would do the trick.
I can't fathom how they'd be so amazing (there's a reason I don't take scarabs anymore, and it's because everyone is wise to their shenanigans).

Re: Eldar battle the forces of the Warp
In Dark Harvest you have basic scarabs, which are the same as base Codex, but for an extra 5 points a base you ditch Entropic Strike and cash in on +1 WS, Shred, and Rend. They are really good against a large number of things, shy of things in large numbers. They are really adept at ripping down 1-5 targets in a single go.

Ahhhh Rend. You'd have to send in an Ironclad Dread to tie 'em up then.

Re: Eldar battle the forces of the Warp
The beauty of it, Mark, is that there is generally a Destroyer Lord lodged inside the squad to both tank hits that would one-shot bases and to be an anti-armor solution. Plus, you know, a secondary scarabs delivery system.
All in all, I'm looking at putting a bunch more Gauss back into my Dark Harvest list to help deal with armor and fliers.
