Alternate Models - Counts As
Do we have a general rule concerning using models from other systems as counts-as models? I am looking at getting some Krootox but I refuse to pay thirty bucks a piece. There are some decent models from other systems I am looking at getting instead though.

Just let ppl know what they are, and make things as clear as possible.
I think what most ppl don't want to see is "that flamer is actually a melta, and that one is a plasma gun.
What about that one?
That's still a flamer.
What about the scrawny guy there, what's he?
Daemon prince."

Re: Alternate Models - Counts As
Well I am looking at http://privateerpress.com/hordes/gallery/trollbloods/units/trollkin-sluggers as alternatives mostly. There are some much cheaper ones, but I think this would be closest to what I want. The only other one is http://www.miniaturemarket.com/rkhkata02.html . However I am concerned about the quality of the miniatures themselves.

I guess the other question is "what are they subbing in for". I would imagine the second one is Broadsides, yes?

The first I'd be concerned about size of model and base.
The second seems like a perfect fit, even looks tau-y. Any size comparisons?
Planes: I believe both are intended a krootox, the second makes sense as its 4 legged and has the one gun.

Correct - Krootox counts as.
The first one is on a 40mm base so same base size as a Krootox. The second was linked by someone on Dakka as a suitable replacement. I might order 4 or so and see how they are (shipping is $10.00 and they are $9.00 for two).

That would be a pretty sweet deal, actually, and they look like proper Tau rather than silly bird things.

Tim built an imperial list using matic dwarves as "counts-as" guardsmen. It's generally okay, as long as the scale is right and the bases are fine.
I draw the line at green army men and lego. :-)

You have to admit, though, you've seen some pretty impressively done lego marines.
