i inevitably spend more on the missus every christmas than she does on me (mainly because i have everything i need besides toys and sexual favor coupons) so instead of providing those, she usually ends up telling me that she meant to get me a den certificate, and that i should just go buy something from her around the same value as her gifts

Re: Forge world!!!
Dear lord! I thought being packed in clear bags and all would have prevented anything that bad from leaving their building.
A GW rep told me about a year ago with their Finecast that resin can be "adjusted" by running hot water over the warp in question and gently bringing things back into alignment, then run it under cold water to "set" the resin back into a harder form. I could see that working for a Warscythe, but I'm not sure how viable that would be for something of that scale.
What's FW's policy on large scale warps?

Re: Forge world!!!
i've successfully bent a few resin peices back on other models
. the pieces here are actually very nicely done. i'm going to try heating them and bending them back before looking for warranty.

Re: Forge world!!!
the thing i don't understand is why they even bother with resin.
i don't see any major detail differences between the resin pieces and the large amount of plastic sprues they sent

Cheaper molds for lower production runs. And it USED to hold more detail, theyve come a long way with plastic.

I don't know if it will work for pieces that large but I find a hair drier to be much better than attempting hot water. Maybe its just me but seems a lot easier to point and click the hair drier. Then I just keep some cold water nearby to set the piece when I am happy.

Re: Forge world!!!
I have never particularly liked resin. For stuff I am going to convert I prefer plastic. For everything else its a tie between pewter and plastic. I have never bought a pewter model with air bubbles or loss of detail.

Re: Forge world!!!
I'll take plastic over the other two any day of the week, pewter can be a pain in the butt to glue together at times due to it's inherent weight. Plastic is also more accommodating, I find, for custom work. Resin is just good for buy one get one free deals.

Re: Forge world!!!
as a medium i find its not bad to work with at all, you can drill it, shave it, mold it very easily. and its fairly light.
But the amount of bubbles, warping, and obscured detail on this plane is rediculous. its all fixable and i'm working my way through, but i've probably spent 10 hours just straightening out peices and clearing out flash. now i''ll probably need to use half a lb of green stuff to make everything line up and fill the bubbles.
For something they charge so much for, one would think that they would have a better quality control system.
or in my wifes words " you paid $150 for a broken plane in a plastic bag?... lol"

Re: Forge world!!!
If it is that much of a time investment to fix, I think a call to FW is in order.

This. Anything more than an hour, two tops, is unreasonable. Like you said it is a premium product with a price tag to match. Stuff like that should not have been sent out in the first place.

Almost done with the build. doing greenstuff work now to cover... the below blemishes and cracks. The entire subframe is twisted slightly. Requiring a lot of shim in order to make everything look right to the eye. Once i get a coat of primer on it, it should look a lot better.
Funny thing about this kit. You get a storm raven sprue and a storm pidgeon sprue to provide various plastic pieces. One could cobble together a fairly good storm pigeon from the leftovers(sans wings. Even get a set of hurricane bolters if i wanted to convert up a landraider crusader.

Re: Forge world!!!
Storm pidgeon sans wings sounds an awful lot like what I used for the Dread Talon conversion.
