House Ruling: Fighta Ace
Fighta Ace is a 10 point upgrade for Dakka Jets
It grants the model +1 BS vs jet bikes and Skimmer Vehicles
This is seperate from the Strafing Run special rule which grants +1 BS vs all grounded model types (so everything but: jetbikes, jump infantry, jet pack infantry, skimmers, flyers, and flying Monstrous creatures)
When the rule "Fighta Ace" was created, FMC's were just MC's, and Flyers were all Skimmers (as I'm sure we can all remember)
The explanation of the rule is that some dakkajet pilots are ace flyers and specialize in hunting down other flyers.
In the Ork FAQ there is no update for the rule.
So, I would like to know, does everyone think that it is reasonable that "Fighta Ace" upgrade should apply to jetbikes, skimmers, flyers and flying monstrous creatures
I intent to use the rule that way for my Ace

rules as intended would point to agreeing with you.
its way too cheap for what it does, but i cant disagree with the rules as printed. 18 str 6 shots @ BS3 during a well timed Waaaaagh! disgusting amount of dakka

Re: House Ruling: Fighta Ace
Agreed.. way to cheap for being able to use it against an increased amount of dangerous new units... especially ones that are probably going to be used in more frequency. Im sure the intention is to go against other flyers, but without a faq to adjust to the points or rule, I don't think I agree it should be used against flyers and flying Ms.. for the same reason I dont actually think chaos daemon princes are flyers right now.
I guess I'm wondering your intention. Are you asking for me to make it a house rule or telling me that that your plan is to use it as your own house rule?

Im saying that I would like to use it that way,
if people would rather I stick to RAW I'll re invest those 10 points into more boyz, or maybe some grabba cllaws.
**BTW interesting Orky thing, according to RAW grabba claws can grab Flyers, giving battle wagons a 50/50 chance of killing flyers on a ram

re house ruling
I'd have to say I am with System Commander on this. Leave the rule as is, until a FAQ. Canadin a flyer is a fast agile craft capable of full axle of movement in any direction. Now think about trying to fly one and shoot at another flyer with any ork brain. I think it would be impossible for an ork to shoot at another flyer with a SM bs skill. If you asked a fighter pilot they would very easily agree it is easier to hit a slow moving ground target then another fighter jet.

Re: House Ruling: Fighta Ace
my own personal feelings about the cost evaluation of the unit aside, i'm sure the intent was for the Fighta Ace ability to be used against flyers. you dont become an fighter ace in the air force for shooting down guys on the ground
I'de bet real dollahs to pesos that this will be faq'd in his favor, eventually.

Ork Flyboyz are MUCH better than humie pilots.
When a Vendetta takes off, theres at least 5 minutes of blessings from the tech-priest and system checks
When a Flyboy takes off, he Hits the GO!! button and sets the throttle to full
When a Thunderbolt takes fire and loses an Engine, it bugs out, or crashes and burns
When a Flyboy loses takes fire an loses an Engire, he makes a mental note that that engine wasn't too important

Q: Can Ork boarding planks, grabbin’ klaws and wreckin’ balls target
Zooming Flyers? (p93)
A: No.

Re: House Ruling: Fighta Ace
From the e-Version:
Fighta Ace:
When shooting at Flying Monstrous Creatures, Jetbikes or vehicles with either the Flyer or Skimmer type, a Dakkajet with the Fighta Ace upgrade is treated as being Ballistic Skill 3.

Good to hear.. Wonder why they didnt put it in the new faq but addressed the plank/claw issue.
Looks they are making special effort to make sure flyers stay more or less immune to everythng except snap shots and skyfire..

Re: House Ruling: Fighta Ace
Awesome, told ya orks flyboyz are da best.
Grabbin Claw makes sense, and boarding plank would never have worked in old rules even,
Boarding Plank
Orks often employ hinged planks that allow them to make daring attacks on nearby vehicles. A boarding plank allows a single embarked Ork to make its close combat attacks against an emeby vehicle within 2" exactly as if the Ork were disembarked and charging, provided neither vehicle has moved more than 12".
Flyers always move at least 18" so they too fast
