Well we should all pat ourselves on the back. The hunters site has officially made it onto the yahoo and gmail search engine. Until now you actually could not get the site to come up if you typed it into the search function. Right now you still have to type in "hunters of the warp saskatoon" but it is progress none the less.

I am sure everyone has heard about the ruthless gw copyright lawyers, and how they like to shut down sites for even minor infractions against the companies intellectual property. Unfortunately the hunters are listed on the Canada GW site, so if people do a search we will probably come up. This means that we will probably have to start watching what we are saying on the site, as i would hate to see all our hard work shut down. I will have to go to another of the larger boards and see what exactly the rules are for this kind of thing.
The other thing that kind of bothers me is out site banner. It is actually a picture from one of the gw art books. So i was wondering if anyone cough..paz..cough* would be willing to do up a new graphic.
I know this all probably seems a little paranoid, but we are not a closed site anymore, and again we all have put allot of time and love into the site to risk having it shut down.

As an aside, if Scott is listening, the Ravening hordes site also comes up, and your banner is also a copyright violation, so you may have to recruit someone with talent to redo your banner.

A big thanks to all the people who have posted up, and added content, it is because of you that out site has become a great success.

Well done everybody, especially you for getting it together Cam.

I'll see what we can do for a banner over on our forum.

First off, Congrats. This is your baby good job. Second I would definately get rid of the GW pic that is being used, I'm sure GW copyrights everything they do. You may have to set up some defined posting rules to combat and hedge the site against any infringments. As well, as the sight grows you may need more moderators or be very diligent with what you have now for quickly removing any problematic posts.

Just a couple of thoughts.

Cam, how about adding the GW logo somwhere on the banner and turning the banner into a link to GW Canada or the clubs portion of there website? Does that convert the banner into our unlicensed use into an advertising link for GW? Maybe that's an easier way to accomodate the copyright laws?

Yea moderators might be a good thing to look into. I know the site supports it, there just has not been much need so far. Ill maybe see if anyone is interested.

As far as copyright i have a good storey. The ruined building that i use for my display case was actually a piece of terrain that i made to cell. I have to admit here that it was basically a rip off of one that was found in the original city fight book. So i posted it up on ebay, saying that it was an original piece of terrain for warhammer 40k. The add was up a day when i got an email from a GW copyright lawyer. He told me that the piece was taken off of ebay because it was in violation of their copyright, and that any attemp on my part to list it again would result in legal action.

Most of the boards out there now have cleaned up their act, becuase for while there gw was on a rampage shutting down sites for anything that even hinted at a copyright infringement.

As far as turning it into a banner for GW, it might work, or at the very least buy us a get out of jail free card. Ill have to look into it.

I will be posting some rules and guidlines for what is acceptable on the site.

It's cool and all that we're listed on the search engines, but truthfully I don't think it will have much impact. Not too many people are going to be that interested in what's going in Saskatoon, at least with out current content.

Now, one thing I can see generating some traffic would be our outstanding blog/modelling section. If we keep posting regular updates, that might keep the ball going, but we're still pretty limited right now for members. I believe we have a regina member, a couple PA guys and a couple from Alberta. Everyone else is from Saskatoon.

I think we should go ahead and shop around for a different graphic, something that is unique for our site, but at the same time I dont think we have to much to be worried about. When the site was just getting started, I was pretty excited about it and posted it in the Grey Knight message forum inviting all the other Grey Knights to share the links to their community sites if they had any. I kept the message for awhile but then took it down because not a single person replied. There was a increase in Guest activity for that time period, but not a one joined. I didn't hear anything about the use of the graphic, and the canadian hobby/community director for Canada is a visitor of the Grey Knight site.

However, Im sure if they wanted to get grumpy they could force us to take it down, but let's save the hassle and beat them to the punch. If Pascal is to busy to whip something up (color preferably) I know a few other people that would definitely do it. Let's discuss tonight what kind of graphic we might want to have. I'm thinking "inqusitorial'ish" myself.

I'm on the board about once an hour checking new messages and I know Cam is on at least once a day if not more. I dont think we need any moderators right now, but a general code of conduct is a good idea. We should grab some examples from other sites and work it into something we feel comfortable with. I dont want to get to restrictive though, but I think as long as were not scanning pages and posting them or typing out codex entries word for word, we'll be ok.

Ok sounds good. I just dont want this site to be taken down because some hater sees it on the GW community site and then reports it. There are even some disgruntled and exiled GW people in saskatoon who could force the issue.

Argh.. good point. *sigh* That is definitely something I could see happening.

We'll make it a priority then to get things cleaned up.

As I mentioned last night, I think something inqusitorial'ish myself. Maybe on the left hand side an Inquistor shooting somethiung hold and molten across to the right hand side where there's some ugly looking demon melting away. Then we could have the text in the middle.

Or, it might even be neat to have an eversor drawn out.. no one ever puts assasins as graphics!

Just some ideas, discuss more!

I like the idea of having an assassin, perferrably the eversor or even better might be the culexis (or whatever the psykiller is). He has that big awsome thing on his head, i have always liked that model.
I am also for the inquisitor though. Even just a static one, but with a big =I= symbol, and a bunch of cool gear. I would actually lean towards a radical inquisitor, you know give him some chaos trinkets, glowing eyes with a big faceguard ( i cant remember the name for them, but like a big collar that covers the bottom part of the face)
I dont know why but i always like the graphic on the left hand side, no reason for this, its just what looks right to me.
I have never really been a fan of action shots for banners, or logos. I prefer one big static image that quickly grabs your attention.
Anyway, that is my contribution, it would be nice if some other people would toss a few ideas out there.
