need a chapter for a biker army
hey guys. i'm starting to burn out doing my models in the red scorpions livery, so i've decided to repaint my bikers in a different chapter. only i cant decide on which.
because they're all on bikes, i should keep it simple and pick a chapter that's not halved/quartered, i think.
i'm debating doing something traditional, like maybe raven guard, or even more traditional such as ultramarines. i think the lightning fast attacks of an all bike army would fit well with either.
i could also do a successor, like the emperor's hands, which is basically blue with white gloves. think veteran crimson fist, but ultramarines blue.
i know what some of you will say; "why not white scars??" because white's a pain to do that many models in entirely. it's the same reason you don't see more imperial fists armies; its a hard color to do well.
is there any suggestions on a new chapter livery to do the bikers in from you guys?

Re: need a chapter for a biker army
Yeah, white spray paint is SO hard mikey:) In all seriousness, between that and Ceramite White, white is a lot easier now.
The obvious is Ravenwing or White Scars.
Didnt you have them as white panthers before?

Yea, and then I was gonna repaint into scorpions. But this time I think I wanna stay away from white, otherwise I'd take my time and do mentors or a new green and white quartered scheme in the digital codex. I also wanna play with the traditional coloring for companies. Speaking of, did anyone else know that back in '89, they had pics of ultramarines denoting company by painting the entire right arm the company color? That seems like a neat method

A Story!
I took the kids to the GW store in .... Calgary (or Edmonton? Doesn't matter...) anyway, we were all looking at random stuff and I grabbed an Ork Battlebox and a box of Boyz. On our way out, the GW employee gave each of the kids a plastic Space Marine dude. They were quite excited. So, when we got home, we punched up Dawn of War.
Thiessen picked a paintscheme that was quarters, Snot Green and Bleached Bone (Any Dark Green and Off-White would do), I painted it up (took about 30 min or so) and it looks *fantastic*, almost made me want to start marines myself.
Anyway, the quarter'd paintschemes are really unique, fairly easy to do, and would make good use of your talent for straight lines.
As for painting White and Yellow, there's tricks that are out there to make it much easier, like priming white and basing white-off-white and using a series of washes and highlighting back up to the white / yellow colour. It'd take a tonne of effort, so probably not worthwhile.
-- That said :-) Quarters with two high-contrasting colours looks great on the table. Thiessen was taking his dude to daycare to "Battle" so I'm not sure where he ended up, but if I can find him, I'll take a picture and post it on Twitter or something.
Edit: Found him, I think he's got some battle-scars. As a proof-of-concept for a scheme, it's fantastic :-)

That's Snot Green and Bleached Bone base for the armour (no washes or highlights either ...) Tin Bitz for the metal bits, and I added a thin black line on the borders.

Angels of Redemption are close to that, but halved.

You could always paint a couple of (metal) dudes and see what's most fun, then strip the losers :-)

Re: need a chapter for a biker army
I've seen Deathwing floating around the Den, but not any Ravenwing as of yet. I will agree, though, white is a pain to do on top of any base that isn't a light tone to start with.
I always though quarters looked really silly in all the pictures, but I have to say, on a real mini it looks far better.

You did real good on your Tomb Spyders. The great thing about white is it's real eye catching.

The Spyders took 5 layers and 3 kinds of paint to do, finishing off with something resembling an enamel.

Another mark/Tom thread jacking to discuss necrons: you two should just have a 40k wedding and have necron babies already :p
So so far it's 1) play a dark angel successor, 2)do a quartered scheme like dark sons

You could do a Blood Angels successor. At one time, they allied with Necrons, wouldn't that be ridiculous?

Re: need a chapter for a biker army
Let it be noted that it was Mark who brought Necrons into the thread, and that I was merely talking about the pains of white paint. Incidentally, while working on the heraldry on some of my Interceptors tonight, I have discovered a white that works amazingly well (smooth application, fairly uniform coverage, minimal color show through, no clumping): Deco Art white, one of the 118mL bottles from the dollar store with just a touch of water to thin it. I can still go back over it with the Tamiya if I want to go with the enamel look, but it has worked better for me so far than White Scar or Ceramite White ever has. Worth looking into as an option, I think.

Re: need a chapter for a biker army
that's novamarines. aurora is the all green with the white starburst with a black cancer fundraiser ribbon in it. shut up, its all i could think of to describe it.
some fluff:
some fluff:
- The First Company was deployed against Chaos cultists during the Goru Heresy.
- The chapter is mentioned in connection with inquisitor Gregor Eisenhorn as having been responsible for saving another inquisitor from the daemonhost Cherubael after it slew his entire retinue.
- The Chapter was involved in a conflict with the Knights of the Raven, a fellow Space Marine Chapter. The conflict was ended by the intervention of Marneus Calgar, Chapter Master of the Ultramarines.
- In 926.M41, elements of the Chapter were sent to battle the Necron World Engine.
- An Aurora Chapter Predator spearhead aided Ultramarine Captain Cato Sicarius in the Zeist Campaign circa 999.M41, reclaiming several worlds previously annexed by the expanding Tau Empire, including Augura, which was being used as a Tau staging point.
Re: need a chapter for a biker army
I believe they are described as basically Iron Hands/Ultras. They are an Ultra successor, but very tank heavy w/ an armory 3x as big as normal, (which would mean about 30 Whirly and Vindy's each, and about 75 Preds and Land Raiders each)

Re: need a chapter for a biker army
Bright Green would look great on the table, especially with a dark base, or stone base?
With lots of dark colours to contrast.
Darren's still got lots of the old Scorpion Green, which'd be a great highlight colour for this. Water it down a bunch and you could use it as a wash, it'd probably look great.

Re: need a chapter for a biker army
the new painting book actually uses them as the space marine chapter example.
they start with a spray of Waaaagh! flesh, then a spray of warpstone glow. this is followed by a wash of coelia greenshade (darker than biel-tann green) and then gone over again with warpstone glow on the panels. an edge highlight of moot green is used, followed by a glaze with lamenter's yellow to make the green look warmer.
the showcase in the book looks very nice.

Re: need a chapter for a biker army
I'll let the big kids talk highlighting. I look at that and all I see in green spray paint, boltgun metal, shinging cold, chaos black and delvan mud.
Carry on:)

Re: need a chapter for a biker army
bike's highlights are done; noticed i missed a couple spots that could use a line of moot green, so i'll go back and get those later
edit: this is the bike with a glaze of lamenter's yellow over the bike; i placed the biker on it to show the difference with and without the glaze, since he's just got the lay of warpstone glow at this point.

Re: need a chapter for a biker army
Yup I agree looking good thus far, are you planning anything more for the metal parts on the engine and exhaust, cause it kinda looks like the bike is fresh from the forge world lol, unless that's the look you are going for lol.
