Rookie Looking for a Game
Hey Guys, managed to get a bunch of my 40k last week. So if anyone is interested in a game or two on Saturday at the Den I would appreciate someone showing me the ropes so to speak.
p.s. I have only played 2 or so games of 6th so I might be a bit slow on some rules ( I played mostly in 3-4th edition and dabbled in 5th)

I'd be down for a game, and it would give you a chance to grab that combi-gun off of me while you're at it. What kind of point value were you looking at?

I'll leave that completly up to you. I have 1500 points of Tau or Eldar or 2k+ of Space Marines. What time did you want to meet up?

Around 1 would probably work, giving us time to set up and play. 2k points lets me be lazy with my list building. It should be noted that Tau are listed as Battle Brothers with vanilla marines on the allies chart, should you be interested in giving allies a test run.

I will probably just roll with my BT. I need to play some games with them to get a handle on what is good/bad for them. Or if they are even viable in the current edition. Eventually I will get around to playing with allies.

Re: Rookie Looking for a Game
To the Galactic South of the system of Guryan the Black Templars have finished not only weathering an extended siege by the forces of Chaos, but subsequently routing them from the system. Having forced the remainder of the Chaos threat back to the Sabbat Worlds from whence they came, the Black Templars made ready to resume their crusade elsewhere, so that they may further prove their unwavering dedication to the Golden Throne. However, as the last of their ships made ready to depart from the hive world of Renuth IV, a brown out covering half of the primary continent occurred. Mere moments later, the central spire collapsed upon itself, followed by several adjoining columns. When the dust settled after a long hour of a slow expanding radius of collapse, endless glinting legions could be seen marching through the sump, gunning down anything that moved, be it Emperor loving citizen or degenerate mutant. As they slogged their way through the Hive's refuse, going ever further and higher, the legions droned a chant in eerie unison, timed perfectly with their metronome cadence.
"Get. Off. My. Lawn."
"Get. Off. My. Lawn."
"Get. Off. My. Lawn."
"Get. Off. My. Lawn."
The chant echoed incessantly through the depths of the Hive, forcing mutants by the scores to the surface, overwhelming the Planetary Defense Forces on duty as clouds of Scarabs blotted out the sky. It seems as though the siege had wrought more damage than even the Chaos invaders could have imagined, stirring a Tomb World to wakefulness, and the protracted nature of the siege only heightened the damage by allowing the Tomb to rouse to wakefulness unmolested. Having just routed a siege from without, the Black Templars find themselves now having to turn their might to bear against one from within.

In all my years of service to The Golden Throne I have faced the lured demons of chaos, swarms of xenos scum, eldar pirates looking for slaves, and even rogue planetary governors. It is my duty and my privilege to travel the stars of this universe and bring an end to all that plagues mankind. Now a new foe rises from the ashes of one just slain. I will not hesitate to destroy their skeleton-like mockery of humanity. Their precious lawn will be all that is left of their legacy. No Pity! No Remorse! No Fear!

Re: Rookie Looking for a Game
Renuth IV fell before the relentless might of the Necrons. While a valiant (and very close) defense was put up, the Necrons saw to it that the AA emplacements (mysterious objectives: Skyfire Nexus) were either under their control, or contested so that the Land Raider support could no longer use them to fill the sky with Melta. Even with the Black Templar doing what they could to seal off the mouth of the Tomb World via orbital stike (Strategic Warlord Trait: -1 to enemy reserve rolls), the relentless cunning and tireless hatred for all that lives allowed the Destroyer Lord leading the reclamation to find other ways to join his forces on the surface (Personal Warlord Trait: Warlord + squad outflank).
Objectives held:
Necrons 1, Black Templar 0
Secondary Objectives:
First Blood:
Necrons (having lost initiative), with a turn one 11 inch charge by Scarabs on a Land Raider which advanced towards them on it's move.
Slay the Warlord:
Necrons (having engaged the enemy Warlord in a challenge on turn 5 before the game ended)
Line Breaker:
Necrons and Black Templar both.
Big Guns Never Tire:
Necrons 1 (dead Land Raider)
Black Templar 1 (dead Spyders)
End points:
Necrons 7, Black Templar 2
All in all it was a good, but very bloody game. First time ever playing against Black Templar, and it was interesting to see their mechanic where I could actually try to bait them off of a point or away from a squishier squad by shooting them and making them generally angrier at me. Even with both Scarab swarms simply getting annihilated by the top of turn two, they most certainly made their points back by destroying a Land Raider and seeing to it that their occupants were occupied for a turn. Autocannon fire applied to the exposed end of a Ghost Ark was apparently quite unhealthy for me, not only taking down one or two adjacent Warriors, but with 7 Warriors riding it getting taken out in the explosion.
Every flipping charge this game was a long charge, as I don't think any charges were rolled below 9", with the 9" charge being the only one that failed. 9" was the minimum needed for the Terminators to charge into my Destroyer lord with attached court of Tesla Immortals he outflanked with, but BS 1 Telsa with Preferred Enemy letting me reroll 1's saw to it that the lead Terminator was cut down, thus making the required charge distance now 11".

It was a very good game. I just want to point out that it was a lot closer than the victory points show, lol. Thanks planes for excellent game. I'll get you next time! =P

Yes, I was somewhat surprised how big the gap was once the secondaries were mathed in. Had everything gone the same, but the Black Templar controlled the only point held, it would have been instead Necrons 4, Black Templar 5.

Re: Rookie Looking for a Game
well that is tough thing with Black Templars now. Most of the scenarios require 3-5 scoring units and Black Templar troops are fairly sub-par for their points. but my hats off to your Necrons. that Flyer (the Death Scyth?) was pretty nasty, along with the destroyer lord + tesla immortals. i sense that those might be played together more often now.

Re: Rookie Looking for a Game
Yeah, the Doom Scythe is pretty beast, especially with some of the janky shooting you can pull off with the Death Ray. The Night Scythe was used entirely as a gun platform that match, as the Immortals that would normally be flying inside of it instead elected to outflank on foot.
