Rumour has it...
When you suffer wounds from shooting, wounds are allocated in order of the closest model to where the shooting originates to the furthest away. That sure cuts down on wound allocation shenanigans, and no more putting your meltaguns in front! Also... deepstriking shooting units in behind seems kinda cool now.

I think blast markers would be interesting, I wonder if the guys closest to the center of a blast makrer will take a wound or only the guys under the flame template. This might make for some interesting results if it comes out to be a true rumor.

If this is the case, I would like to know what would happen in the event of mixed shooting ala guns and templates coming out of a single squad all at once. Do you resolve the template first, potentially giving the guns juicier targets, or do you resolve the guns first and potentially cut down flamer targets.

This is a prime reason this is FAIL. Tom hasn't been playing that long and picked up yet another reason this blows.
This will either make things go faster (Those 3 guys? Sure.) or a lot longer (Let me get my tape measure, I'm sure that tactical marine is closer than the sgt......).

Also, I can see this being a right pain in the butt for assault armies. Move 6, get "pushed back" 2-3.

I just realized, some well placed templates could be used to break unit cohesion with this system. Someone has a line, blast the center of it.

I really hope this isn't the case. At first I thought it works, but then I realize it will just make WA just as "gamey" as before. How are you supposed to deploy your flamers and meltaguns in a reasonable manner? As much as 5th ed has a few WA problems, I do like the element of randomness in who can get killed when a squad takes a large amount of incoming fire. The idea that the front members die first is kind of silly. This isn't supposed to be Napoleonic warfare, it is assumed that the actual squad members are taking cover wherever possible and not actually in the dramatic pose all the time.
