On the Grid, there is only War.
Behold, the rise of the NecTrons!
The general painting process was as follows:
1) Primer (namely: previous paint job)
2) Chaos Black
3) Regal Blue
4) Asurmen Blue
5) Asurmen Blue
6) Phoenix Red (Reaper)
7) Calico Red (DecoArt)
With those last two layers, I had noticed that Phoenix Red is actually an orange. Additionally, it seems to crack a lot when it dries. That being said, I find that applying it first, and then following up with the Calico Red, the red pops far more, as it is not being darkened anymore by the black underneath.
Now for the Warriors. On the left is a Warrior with the 8th layer, which is still tenative test phase, a layer of clear nail polish. I am uncertain as to how much I like that or not, so for the time being he's the only one with that layer.

Destroyers
Up next is the Destroyers with a before and after comparison. On the left is what Jay provided me with, and on the right is what I did with it.

Lord and Scarabs
Here is my Necron Lord and the one Scarab base I have. The idea I had with the Lord's cape was to try to emulate an effect I saw on a concept art for CLU.

Cryptek
Finally, we come to the Cryptek. I opted to use his open handed arm instead of his orbed arm, and as a result I was able to give him an extra, thematic bit.

Re: On the Grid, there is only War.
Next is my Deathmarks. I have changed my painting scheme a touch, having painted some models now.
1) P3 Black Spray Primer
2) Regal Blue
3) Asurmen Blue
4) Blazing Orange
5) Blood Red
6)Tamiya Color's X-7 Red
That finally red coat results in a nice glossy finish on the energy sections of the models, and is nice and smooth to the touch as well. It takes an hour to dry, though, and heaven help you if you touch it by accident before it sets.

I also finally got around to finishing the assembly of my Barge, and upon close inspection you can tell quite easily where I switched my warm shades of paint and brushes. I have learned much from doing the Deathmarks, mostly that spray primer is a god-send, and that LEDs and tight spaces don't like each other. Looking at the sprues for the Ghost Ark, I think that would have been a much easier piece of plastic to work with, but I have no plans to light up another machine in the near future.

Re: On the Grid, there is only War.
The most recent (completed) addition to my army is the Necron Lord/Overlord with Warscythe and Phase Shifter. He's also the first mini that I've posted on here with my new white color scheme. Somewhat ironic that my old color scheme is based off of the new movie, and my new color scheme is based off of the old movie. Much more photogenic, though. And yes, he has trophies on his base.

re grid
Kinda cool on the Lord. I'd ink the robe stuff. Get some depth in there. It will really bring out your color scheme more.

So far I have the Lord, four Warriors, and a kit-bashed Cryptek built using this pallet. Once I finish the other six Warriors and one Cryptek I will look at expanding the scheme. I am not even sure what I would do with an ink wash on these guys for the white scheme.

Trying something more akin to traditional Necrons, while still keeping a tie to my existing colour pallets. A dry brushing of Shinning Gold on the top is an attempt to help the lighting effect, going for the general idea of an oppressive sun beating down on them.

Trying out the same general effect on a batch of re-painted warriors. It is kind of nice that their Gauss Flayers have barrels for a change.

As Mark was so kind to provide me with those extra Lich Guard bits, I felt obliged to build this fellow post haste.

Re: On the Grid, there is only War.
Uhg, looking back at some of the first pictures in this thread causes me more pain than nostalgia. With Mark's 1750 tourney fast approaching, I've decided to give my Scythes some love to help bring them in line with what I'm doing with the rest of my army. I used a 50/50 blend of Ushabti Bone and Ulthuan Grey, rather than the white I've been using on my foot dudes so far. I think the slight warmth works better for my army than the cool, sterile white. Helps to tie in with the gold lighting effect better, too. One or two more thin coats may yet be required to smooth them out, though.

Also getting a Barge all nice and spiffed up for the tourney.

Still some room for touch ups, but I think it is now ready for the tourney. Now, if only I had another two weeks to get that Heldrake ready.

Re: On the Grid, there is only War.
I am starting to regret my earlier line of thought that "30 flayed ones will be easy! It's just warriors with claws instead of guns!". The claws are a bit of a pain to carve out, and the Green Stuff hand mounts are supper small. I might be at this for some time, especially how much of a procrastination response this task is provoking.
One down, 19 to go, I guess. Bleh.

Re: On the Grid, there is only War.
I know what you mean. I have 16 kroot to put together and I got all the legs/torsos/heads put together and then looked at their stupid multi-part joining arms. I hate those things. Ergo they have been sitting on my desk like that for the past week while I muster the courage to get through them in one go. Then I am allowing myself the fun of finishing putting together my second riptide, my commander, and my bastion. Then I have to finish magnitizing stuff.

Progress on the Flayed Ones continues slowly, up to 12 of 20 currently.

Re: On the Grid, there is only War.
20 Flayed Ones are now built, primed, and based. Air brush decided to spurn me once I tried to get fancy with them, so their progress is slightly stalled.
I also have started work in earnest on the the Tesseract Ark finally, as I am hoping to field it on Saturday. I currently have it assembled to the point that I can paint everything without bits getting in the way. A couple passes of black spray paint, and then off to the paint station it goes!
I am opting to not install the pilot in favor of making him into a Cryptek. It seems that FW even supplied an alternate head for the pilot. Same head dress, but with the Cryptek face going on.

Re: On the Grid, there is only War.
I am of the firm opinion that white is a cursed color of paint, and I despise having to use it on anything large. It sometimes looks nice when done, though. I think to save myself some trouble with the next Ark I do, I will use the air brush to base all the orange on, then do all the areas by hand. I have noticed that "touching up" metallics on large surfaces, that there is a distinct difference in the specular between the air brushed and the hand brushed, and it becomes rather noticeable when the light catches it at the right angle.
Still got a bunch more to do tonight if I am going to have it half ways fieldable for tomorrow.

Apparently having a large block of resin for a front hull makes a model front heavy, who'd have thunk it. With any luck the thruster pods will balance it out better.

Same thing happened with my commander. Who'd think that if you pose the model leaping backwards with all the weight at the top and back he'd just tip.

Anyone else think that it's about time I start playing with something that resembles proper scarabs? With the Zone Mortalis tournament fast approaching, I sure do! Thus is borne the Scarab Forge!

I need to get some legos so I can build a proper set-up for my instant mold.
