seperating plastics... somehow.
so i have some older tanks and an old DE raider that i want to use for a conversion. but they are already built and superglued together
is there any way of separating pieces other than just using a crafting knife and wedging them apart? (and praying)

Re: seperating plastics... somehow.
if you used super glue and not model car glue, which bonds by melting the plastic, then goto Hobbyworld, or i guess darren's stocking this at the den now, and buy a bottle of De-Bond. spray it on the join, and slowly work it apart until it separates. multiple re-spraying may be required. the directions are on the bottle as well. this works on all super glues, and CA glues. but as i said, if you used hobby cement glue, such as testor's for model cars, then you'll have to cut it apart, as that stuff works by melting the plastic together to cause an unbreakable bond.

If you have to cut, use a vice, but put a face cloth on either side of the vice. Secure it just enough so it doesn't move as you slide the blade down the join. Make sure your blade isn't dull.
