This week
I will try this again.
I am available at about 11 am on Wednesday or Friday, or Saturday afternoon. Anyone up for a 1600 point game? I want to get some playtesting in before Tim's tourney.

Re: This week
Depending on the draw schedule for Curling, I might be able to do a Friday Morning game Scott.
Try and schedule something if you can though, as I won't know until Wednesday/Thursday what the draw schedule is like... You could always come to my house Friday Morning for a game on my table (depending on what time you get up). And you could go home w\ a Squig! Huzzah!

Re: This week
I could visit you or meet at the Den. No preference.
Are you up for the highlander rules?

Re: This week
Highlander rules is good for me. Den might be possible, unless I've got a 2pm draw, in which case it'll have to be my place. We'll have the draw schedule on Wednesday.

Re: This week
My draw's not until 3:30, so 10:30 / 11 at the Den Scott?

Re: This week
Earlier is better, so 10:30? If either of us are a little late, no problem.
Look forward to it.

Well that game was epic fail. I guess Horsepower deserved to give me a thumping after the pasting I gave him last time. The lack of scarab swarms was a first for me, as they do little to nothing against my lists.
Highlights: Lictor taking 4 wounds while in cover. I go to ground and roll 1,1,1,6. 1 dead lictor. My hive guard fire on his vehicles. Score 2 pen hits, roll 1,1. Doom of Malan'tai gets stuck in traffic and doesn't arrive until round 4. At least I took down the monolith.

Re: This week
That was quite the game. That Deathleaper roll was savage, and allowed me to take your Trygon down 2 wounds with Tesla shooting. Although, that didn't end up mattering so much. To be honest, the immortals would've finished him off. They'd've gotten 10-12 wounds on him, and out of 4 dice, the chances of rolling a single "1" are pretty good.
What really caused problems for you was the Ghost Ark's tonnes of shots that negated your cannon-fodder (well... statistically improbably killed deathleaper) and the two surf-board-lords, which wounded your Tyranofex, removed the biovores, killed the hiveguard, hurt the warriors, and were generally an unstoppable menace for you. I fear for the mechanized armies that have to face two surf-board-lords based on their success against a Tyranid list.
Imagine if those surf-board-lords didn't roll quite as many "1's" to wound!

Re: This week
A non-highlander nid list usually has 2-3 squads of hive guard, which deal with those things well. If I could have dealt with your vehicles in front of me faster, I could have turned the hive guard's attention on your drive-by Detroit vehicles.
The doom needed to come down faster, and then you'd have a backfield threat, as he dropped pieplates on your annihilation barge and guys.

I dont think you can extrapolate how a unit will do vs mech, from a tyranid game. I think vs mech, your going to face more heavy or melta weapons.
Not that they are bad in any way because of this. If you can force your opponent to focus on your Expendable HQ's and ignore your scoring units. your half way to a win.

Not only that, but they'll be zipping around getting a 4+ cover save. Against Scott, he was eventually able to assault one with his Trygon, you only need to hit once to make bad things happen. Although with being able to ignore immobilized results, they can be challenging to bring down, even with melta. (When they move 24").
You have to hit (66%), Pen (75%), fail 4+ save (50%), Pop on a 3+ (66%)
Which is ~20% chance. (almost like rolling a "6") (I went back and added in the glance, as it can pop it on a 5/6) (This assumes you're in melta range and I moved > 18")
Trygon gets ~3 hits (re-rolling misses), Pen 75%, no 4+ save, pop on a 4+ (50%)
Average is Popped, each hit has ~ 40% chance to pop it.
Average charge, that's 7 attacks, 3 hits, and Popped.
