Ork Slugga/Shoota
Painting some up right now and I had some questions...
Are slugga boys the way to go? Does anyone play with shoota boys?
What's the minimum unit size of either that people usually play with?
Boss options... is it still mostly bosspole with power klaw?
TY.

1) both are are good , but each mob must be all one type
2) 30 on foot , 20 in a battle wagon , or 12 in a truck.
3) yup

Re: Ork Slugga/Shoota
IMO, always Shoota boyz.
Shoota Boyz are amazing. 18" assault 2 is outstanding. You can get a lot of shots, and a lot more shots that can soften up an assault victim. Sure, you get one less attack in hand-to-hand but your threat range and shooting opportunities far outweigh the two rounds you might be in close-combat.
That said, I run a unit of 20 slugga choppa (from AoBR) (PK-Pole Nob and 2 big shootas)
a unit of 20 shoota boyz (because they're awesome) (PK-Pole Nob and 2 big shootas)
and a unit of 12 'ard boyz (with slugga choppa) (PK-Pole Nob and a rokkit, 'cause I liked the model :-) )
I also run 2 dreads in troops and sometimes grots. (because I'm a bad player :-) )

What's the more popular option? I'm asking for painting up stuff for eBay is why. 12 for a trukk mob sounds the most do-able.

Re: Ork Slugga/Shoota
I used to 100% agree with Mark, now I 100% disagree. Sluggas are the way to go. Ork units are vulnerable to melting away when assaulted, and the extra attack sluggas have mitigates this to some degree. It doesn't seem like much, but with a largish mob the extra attacks (18 required) will kill one extra MEQ in a phase which over the course of multiple assault phases is very significant. 24" str4 shooting is extremely meh, and sometimes completely useless.
And if you're doing a trukk mob, they would likely be sluggas, and perhaps 'Ard Boyz as well.

Grots aren't bad at all. In fact many of the Ork lists I've seen perform well at tournies have at least one unit of grots. Most players reserve them, or keep them in a battlewagon all game. Essentially you're paying a 40 point premium to make an armour 14 vehicle scoring which seems like a decent tradeoff. They're also not easy to remove with shooting as they'll just go to ground every time they're shot at.
