If I were to make a Necron Army....

Well....I know the codex is not officially out yet, and I for one have no clue on points cost....but I have been rolling that one around in my head...and I imagine a few people have been doing the same.

Without knowing points cost (or every unit in the codex), this is what I would likely try to do....

Crypteck (or 2 if possible)
- I kinda like the whole idea of a "tech psyker"

Elites

Lych Guard with the Shields (they protect the lord)
--Transport if available

Triach Praetorians Squad
-- If they can shoot and CC like the rumours are, I would use them to control trouble spots, or assist charged warriors

Deathmark Squad (Maybe swap for another Triach Squad)


Troops

Warrior with a Ghost Ark Transport x2
--Cryptecks hide in here

Immortal Squad (either 2 bigger squads (10+) or 4 small 5-man squads)


Heavy Support

Monolith

Annihiliation Barges x2

What does the necron army that is rolling around in you head look like?

Looking at it from just the WD stuff...

Looks like dark eldar tbh. lots of skimmers, lots of shooty. lots of vehicles to buy.

List looks fine, Just gotta figure out if its a 2k list or a 4k list

From reading a post....4k....

However, if you look on the GW website, they had a blog a couple days back showing a 1000 point army and a 1500 point army.

This army added the cryptecks, the elites, and 2 Immortal squads, so I dont think it is HUGELY over 2000.

My target is usually a 3-4k army so that I have options to play around with.

For me....

Necron Overlord w/ Res Orb
Overlord on Catacomb Command Barge

Triarch Guard or Lych Guard

6 Immortals
4x10 Warriors
2 Ghost Arks

3 Destroyers
3 Heavy Destroyers
10 Scarab Swarms (however that works now)

Monolith
Doomsday Ark
Annihilation Barge

Basically start w/ the battleforce and go from there. I already have the Overlord and one of the Immortals. (Note: The list above is roughly a 2300 point army)

I'm very torn as I think Crons are going to be a cheap ($) army to run, although not as much as before. (Edit: The list above will run approx. $700. That's more than I thouht. I think they'll be a middle of the road army in $ price). The paint style calls to me (Plate Mail Army Builder and Dark tone FTW. Everyone here knows I paint slow as Christmas, but I'd bet I could knock out 2000 pts in 3-4 weekends.) I just have too much on my plate between the kids and getting my other stuff done.

Ya....I did the math on my army above. It was $750.....not super expensive, but not cheap either.

Yeah but if you look at it, it's the new vehicles mostly. The plastic infantry are SUPER cheap for the $, but then it's $80 for a monolith, $60 for the arks (which average only 150 pts), and $40 for the barges (which are either super cheap or super expensive depending on build).
