Warpath
Has anyone gotten the rules for Warpath yet? I'm curious to see what they're like...

Re: Warpath
I had signed up for the Beta rules, but so far... nothing.
Just glanced over rules. So far I likey. Looks like it would take some getting used to.
Any pics of the mini's yet? If they are on par with the fantasy stuff, I'd be willing to give it a shot.

Re: Warpath
I haven't seen anything from Mantic that I would buy mini wise. The only reviews I've heard fo the rules are that they're pretty plain jane generic. Nothing too exciting so far.
There wer concept sketches out there for the mini's. They were doing a space dwarf squat army that looked ass terrible. But if anyone likes their fantasy stuff they're off the same quality and style I would guess.

Re: Warpath
It's pretty tough to judge based on the concept art. Some people like the look of their fantasy Orks, and others don't. I don't think they're bad at all. They look a bit more feral and nasty than the GW ones. Their Dwarves are pretty plain, but the Undead seem okay. The Elves seem to be the ones that have been the least well-received. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing some of the Warpath stuff in the flesh, er plastic.

Re: Warpath
It's actually very easy to judge based on the concept art. I've seen plenty of cool concept art turned into a crap mini. I've never once seen crap concept art turned into a decent mini. I think they had their stuff posted on their site regarding this game. SOmething with a creature with it's bag legs replaced by wheels. The kind of rig you sometimes see people put their dogs in after whatever surgery a dog gets so it can't walk using it's hind legs anymore.
I really dislike Mantic so far on every level. Defo the elves are the weakest but other than that thye've managed to put out some really crap mini's. Their a price point company trying to show the world that mini gaming doesn't have to be expensive but so far even for pure gaming mini's they've got nothin'. Ayone ever hear a review for Kings of War? I've never actually heard a review for that system.

Re: Warpath
This looks like space dwarves versus space orks. Why? Out of the bazillion cool alien and high tech ideas out there for races and looks and design, why does it look like warmachine?

Re: Warpath
@Scott: To each their own. I like brunettes, you like blondes.... I haven't seen a physical model (yet) but from what I've seen in pics, online, etc. I like Mantics Dwarves and Elves better than GW. And I'd do abyssal Dwarves before I'd shell out for FW Chaos dwarves. Until I see actual Warpath models tho, I'm reserving judgement.
@Paz: Agreed, but these were probably the "easy" models to make, hence coming out first. I'm more interested in the ruleset. If that doesn't work, the system's dead in the water (see D&D: Skills and Powers, D&D Chainmail, Mayfair's DC RPG, etc.) Anyone up for a playtest?

to each their won for sure, but to be fair your analogy should be closer to "Scott prefer's blondes, and Roland prefer's nasty ass chicks with big 'ole buck teeth, small breats shooting in wild lazy eyed directions and lookin n' like they have a second ass in their back pocket.". YES!
Once you've held them in the hand you might find the lack of detail disturbing. Also they use a much softer plastic than the stuff I prefer from GW. Not a knock on the min's but I also think they should have made them closer in scale to GW as they were clearly going after the warhammer crowd who wanted affordability. As it is they're very poor. I've held in my hand the dwarf super armored guys, the high elves (Worst of the bunch for sure), and the undead ghouls. All very poor.
One advantage they might have is that they're not trying to rank up the mini's and might be able to have a little more freedom in their posing as they're not making WHFB style mini's now.
I don't think you'll see too much effort put into their ruleset as from all I've been told their business model is lookign to just capitalize on dissenting GW buyers. Not dissimilar to Avatars of War, but at least that company puts out quality work.
But maybe the Den can ask for a few sample mini's to check out the range. Mantic was firing mini's off to anyone who asked for them months back. That's how I got mine.

@Scott: Obviously you haven't seen my wife:D If she has a fault, it's that she obviously blind, I mean she married me.
As I said I haven't seen them with my own two eyes, and I have heard some of what you're talking about (lack of detail, soft, etc.) On the other hand I've also heard the exact opposite. Egad I love the internet. They LOOK good in the pics, but so did GW's blastscape from Planetstrike.
I may just order a set to see. They're what $15 for a box of ten?
I'll definitely agree with you on the "dissatisfied GW customers" bit. They aren't even going too far from standard with Kings of War (Seaguard, an "Abyssal Elf" sorceress?!) They are obviously "models first" for sure. The ruleset (Warpath) looks good on some things (no conga lines?! Sweet!!!), confusing on others (I have yet to find in the rules where models are actually removed, it looks like a unit fights at full effectiveness until it fails its Morale/whatever and is routed), and dumb on others (a fly, armor, ordanance, and HQ each for every troop of 10+? Really? No, REALLY?)
