Paladins
Hey, has anyone tried out some paladins yet?
At some point I want to give them a try, but I'm really liking the idea of trying out Draigo and two five man units of paladins. No apothecaries, but 2 psycannons per unit and then a mix of weaponry. And then, maybe a unit of 2 paladins on top of that to stick with Draigo or perhaps a librarian. Then, a couple dreadnoughts or Dreadknights and were on our way!
There's something really appealing about having an army with hardly any models in it... yet almost everything is scoring. But, I just wanted to see if anyone's knows if it's worth it? Seems pretty expensive, and Id really have to figure out a way to get them moving qiucker.. but still something Id like to try out.

Re: Paladins
Maybe 2 5-man Squads, a 3-man squad, Draigo and a Libby (for a teleport homer)? If one of them gets a little pricy drop em to Termies.

You might have seen this already, but this guy has broken them down pretty well: http://www.lounge.belloflostsouls.net/showthread.php?t=15445
Everyone seems to agree, don't take an apothecary!

Re: Paladins
For a 5 man squad, Id have a really hard coughing up the extra 75 points..
I think the main reaosn I like the idea of the 5 man squad is the fact you can throw in two psycannons with them.
Gonna go check out that article now.

Re: Paladins
Ok, how much are you building to?
Draigo-275
Libby w/ NWS, Shrouding, Quicksilver, and Summoning-180
3-man palidin squad w/ Apoth, NFS, NDH, NFH-245
5-man Palidin squad w/ Apoth, MC NDH, 2x NFS, 2x NFH, 2x Psycannon-400
5-man Palidin squad w/ Apoth, MC NDH, 2x NFS, 2x NFH, 2x Psycannon-400
1500 pts
if you're going to 2000, add another 5 man squad, and give each squad a Brotherhood banner, or NWS.
either way, you are averaging 100 pts a model. That. is. CRAZY.
I'm not sure of the actual $ cost off the top of my head, but it seems like it should be a rather cheap army to buy, and a quick on to build paint. Draigo, Libby, and 3-4 Termie boxes. You'd at least need 1 extra termie Psycannons, 2 for the 2000 pt version
If you drop all the Apoth upgrades that's an extra 300 pts......which is roughly and extra 5 Paladins to spread around. Maybe add 2 to the 3-man squad and give em 2 Psycannons?

Re: Paladins
Yeah, that pretty sums up exactly my thinking between the two. 5 guys with 2 psycannons and 10 wounds is pretty appealing, with or without the ID worry.
However, what I did NOT think of was that you can mastercraft the psycannons.. awesome..
Before I start worrying myself about these dilemnas, I should probably have a game first..

Re: Paladins
They seem pretty awesome, you could make a serious deathstar unit that would easily destroy anything near it. I personally have a hard time justifying the insane cost. I'm a "quantity has a quality of its own" kinda guy. (says the guy who plays Deathwing)
It would be crazy hillarious to field an even smaller army than I currently do, however.

Re: Paladins
Oh yeah.. thats I think the foundation for most of the GK book.. super fun .. and hilarious.
Im going to have to try a few of the odder unit builds as well.. like some of the stuff you can do with the warrior acolytes and inquisitors. Theres something hilariously appealing about being able to give a 4 point model carapace armour.. then putting him with a a monkey or two to make sure it has a good chance of getting upgraded to a 3+. Im sure Ill try it once and realize how dumb it was.. BUT.. it will be fun to try.
Ill also have to try out a few of the different assassins.. although I already how that'll go.
And of course. the techmarine. I think they definitely have a plac ein the new book.. just have to figure out where.. more than likely not fixing stuff either. Accompanying a unit with a grenade load out seems the best bet.. or of course hiding in a reinforced building with a beamer. I just lover the grenades though..
Anyway, Im enjoying all the choices.

Re: Paladins
Bell of lost souls just put an article talkinbg about the same thing.. termies vs. paladins.
Besdies recently learning about master crafting psycannons.. I also hadnt though about taking a 10 man squad of paladins.. taking your 4 psycannons and other equipment, then combat squadding them so you can have your 4 psycannons in one unit. Yeah, your putting all your eggs in one basket and might noto be able to take advantage of the multiple wounds.. however.. you can at least have the luxury or having a dedicated unit for shooting.

Re: Paladins
As well, a 10 man paladin squad could be a great deathstar unit if you drop in Draigo (cant remember his name) and an Apoth....
You could run a Libby (with summoning) in another unit with a Storm Raven to pull the unit of paladins around the table with summoning...
