Would you be interested in being in a team tournament?
Interest in a Team Tournament? [POLL]
Had an idea I've been bouncing around. Let me know what you all think....
Team Tournament
Maybe in June/July?
Schedule
10:30-11:30 set up
11:30-12:00 best painted voting
12:00-1:30 round 1
1:30-3:00 round 2
--lunch intermission--
3:30-5:00 round 3
5:00-6:00 give out prizes; clean up; leave
4 man teams (either make teams before hand or determine randomly)
Each player has a 500 pt Combat Patrol per std rules
0-1 HQ
1-6 Troops
0-1 Elite, Fast or Heavy Support
No Named/Special/Unique Characters
No 2+ Armor Saves
Nothing with more than 3 wounds
No Vehicles with Front + Side + Rear > 33 (Tau Devilfish is ok at 33, Dreadnought is not at 34)
Each team moves their forces simultaneously. Each armies special rules affect only themselves
4x6 table size (maybe 4x4 if more teams.)
3 games (one with each of your teammates against a different team each game)
Mission/deployment determined ahead of time
Ex.
Round 1: Pitched Battle/Kill Points
1ABv2AB 3ABv4AB
1CDv2CD 3CDv4CD
Round 2: Dawn of War/Seize Ground (4 Obj)
1ACv3AC 2ACv4AC
1BDv3BD 2BDv4BD
Round 3: Spearhead/Capture and Control
1ADv4AD 2ADv3AD
1BCv4BC 2BCv3BC
Thinking $40/team/$10/person?
Prizes for 1st place team, best painted team, and door prize team.
I’m working on something for painting points.
Issues I’m seeing.
Current set-up makes it possible for every team to finish with the same point totals. (As a team can split their games every round.) Maybe options for battlepoints (I’d rather not do this, but it’d be almost impossible to do a Swiss system this way).
I'm going with the Combat Patrol rules and 1000pts per side in the battle to keep things moving quickly mainly. If a majority would rather do say 750 with std FOC, I say sure.

Question: Clarification on the number of wounds thing. Most of your rules follow recon standard except for the more than 3 wounds so I'd just thought I'd ask if its supposed to be no models with 3 or more wounds, or are 3 wound models ok?

I pulled it from the Hunter's Division rules. I assumed it meant 3 wounds is ok, 4 is not.

Re: Interest in a Team Tournament? [POLL]
It looks fine. but I'm a bit confused. So, you make a team with 3 other guys? 500 points each but you play with one different member each round? So each team has 1000 points a side?
If your looking at 1000 points a side game.. they'll prob be done in about an hour or a bit after.. they'll go by really fast even with the added time of talking to your teammate.
1500 points a side would probably be a great number per side if you want to run 3 games.. you could probably even squeak it up to 2000 a side. The team games can move pretty quick since you've got two sets of hands moving and rolling dice.
There are a couple things you could do to help save in the set-up time. If your running it on Sunday, you could come in a bit before they close Saturday and get everything set-up.. with no distraction it could all be done in probably 20-30 minutes.
I like the idea of judging the painting first.. since there are always some stragglers.. and this way your not biting into any actual game time with a delay, but just a bit of judging time .
Those are my only comments.. pretty minor ones as well. Sounds like fun though! I think it'd work fine with pre-planned or randomly determined teams..
Hopefully you don't, just a few comments to help out.
Sounds like fun though.. I'm definitely game!

Re: Interest in a Team Tournament? [POLL]
@ Robyn: Yes to every thing at the start.
I'm erring on the side of caution with time/game size. With the 1000 pt tournament it seemed everyone finished in plenty of time. With the 2000 it seemed very tight when a "Veteran" wasn't playing, or hordes where involved. My line of thinking is 1000 to 1500 aside.
The Den is open 12-5 on sundays, and 10:30-6 on Sat, correct?
If I can squeeze it into a Sunday I'd rather do that, but likely keep it at 500/Combat patrol. At 1 -1/2 hrs a game (1500), that would leave only 30 minutes for paint judging, cleanup, etc. At an hour a game (500), I think that would leave plenty for all that, moving to new tables, etc.
If everyone prefers 750/standard FOC, I'd rather do a saturday, when there is more time avaliable.
Either way, I was actually planning on asking about setting up the night before. I think it'd be a lot easier for start-up; etc.
Any suggestions are helpful:)
For mission/deployment the other option instead of by round, might be for each table to have a specific mission/deployment assigned to it. I'd only do that if I could make sure noone would play the same table twice tho.

Re: Interest in a Team Tournament? [POLL]
First, the flash rules say no 3 wound models.
Second, I think randomly having a different mate every round will decrease the ability to be competitive, the purpose of a tournament. I think teams of 2 which are signed up together. That way you know who your with and what armies will be matched together.

Possible Sat Schedule
10:30-11:30 set up
11:30-12:00 best painted voting
12:00-1:30 round 1
1:30-3:00 round 2

3:30-5:00 round 3
5:00-6:00 give out prizes; clean up; leave
Possible Sun Schedule

2:00-3:00 round 2

3:30-4:30 round 3
4:30-5:00 give out prizes; clean up; leave
I think the lunch intermission could be elimanated on a Sunday.
@ Veyure: You are correct. It's two different rule sets. Here's where I'm seeing an issue. Basic differences between the two:
Old Combat Patrol Rules
No more than 2 wounds
No Ordnance weapons
New "Recon" Patrol Rules (from the Hunters Division)
0-1 Elite, Fast or Heavy Support
Nothing with more than 3 wounds
I'm actually more in favor of No ord, than 0-1 for the rest of the codex. I wouldn't be opposed to both.
At two wounds we lose most HQ's and even some troops (Nurgling bases, Tyranid warriors, etc) while keeping Space Wolves Battle leaders, Chaplains, Libbys etc.
Are their any codexes that would lose ALL of their HQ options with the no 3 wound option? And what would everyone prefer?
I'm going to hit my books and will post something later.
I consider all the rules "rough" at this point and not final. Any input is appreciated.

Re: Interest in a Team Tournament? [POLL]
I believe necrons and tyranids lose all their hqs, but the point of the no more than 2 wound thing is like the no more than 34 armor rule and no 2+ save. Its designed to keep the harder to kill units out to ensure speedy gameplay.

Necrons, Chaos lose all HQ I know for sure. I think nids can take a broodlord though. Can't take warriors which I'm told are a staple need for the army or something. I'm ok with either of those sets.

Re: Interest in a Team Tournament? [POLL]
Ok Nids would lose all HQ. I think the issue with Nid Warrior is that they provide synapse and w/o them you have limited synapse coverage. Resulting in your army wandering off because it saw a shiny. Nid players am I correct in this thinking?
Looking thru the codex the main/only synapse source remaining would be Zoanthropes. Actually the entire codex gets nerfed pretty heavy:
HQ: none avaliable
E:Hive Guard, Venomthrope, Zoanthrope (only creature giving Synapse), Pyrovore, Ymgarl Genestealer (Brood telepathy)
T: Genestealers (BT), Termagaunts, Hormaguants
FA: Gargoyles, Spore Mines
HS: Biovore
The two basic builds I see are all genestealers and pray, or Zoanthrope/Guants blocks.
On the other hand, 3 wound basically lets them take the entire codex. (HS still gets nerfed but that the point isn't it?)
I guess what I need to know, is this a setback, or does it make the list unplayable?

could just allow basic warriors, it would be an easy workaround.

Re: Interest in a Team Tournament? [POLL]
So are we required to make teams of 4 or would it be teams of two?
Do army/unit rules affect your partners? Such as with sanguinary priests 6" FNP and Furious Charge rules?

Re: Interest in a Team Tournament? [POLL]
@judchic: sound reasonable.
@Matt: 4 man teams. Although if anyone wanted to sign up stag, we'd just make a team out of them. The basic premise is that of adepticon's team tournament.
I'd rule your armies specials etc. affect only your own army. I'd rather encourage different dexes than have ppl show up with 4 Space Wolves or whatever.

I like the idea, but those are big teams. You'll probably only end up with 4 teams.
