Mordheim
Hey all, i know that this is the 40k home but i thought i would do a little spammin.
As some of you may know there has been talk of starting up another mordheim league. Initially Paz was going to put it together, but it seems that he is a little busy with his multitude of projects. We talked however, and he said he would like to play mordheim, but that he was willing to pass the responsibility of organizing it off to someone else who might have more time.
You guys may also remember a guy named Ryan Glover. I know, he has been scarce these days, but you oldtimers will know him. Anyway, i spoke with Ryan and suggested that we co-run the league, to which he agreed.
For those who dont know, Ryan was a big part of the old mordhiem league that was a great success. He has a ton of knowledge when it come to running a league, and i think that between the two of us we can put something together that will work.
So this is a heads up to anyone who is interested. I would like to hear from anyone who would like to play so that we can get a feel for whether or not there would be enough interest to make it worthwhile.
If you have never played mordheim before it is super easy to get into. All the rulebooks are free from the GW specialist games webpage. It is a skirmish based game between 2 or more people using small warbands, and is set in the warhammer fantasy world. I believe an entire warband cannot exceed 12 guys (Ryan?) and can be composed of any kind of miniatures you want, not just GW stuff. So basically the startup costs are whatever you have to pay for 12 miniatures. This is a good way to get a takse of fantasy withougt haveing to drop 500 bucks.
For anyone who is more interested here is a link to the specialist page.

There is a current mordheim yahoo group that we are looking at as well.

Re: Mordheim
So Jesse and I had our first mordheim true battel (frikkin PILEs of terrain, i loves it) Vampire undead vs. Orks. We were playing treasure hunt. So at first, Its lookin down for me. I use call of vanhel on a dire wolf to make it run, but it falls off a 2 inch incline and DIES. awsome. Things stated picking up once my zombies began to mass swarm his spread out treasure hunting orks. I was sweeping in for the victory after i found the loot 12 inches from my deployment (you have to drag it out that way) and had a wall of zombies and the vamp to protect it....
..but... Then I charged his ork warboss, thinking i would ownz him with teh vamp... and was cut right in half for my efforts. His orks wade through the previously impenetrable wall of zombies, he grabs the loot, then my band routes. EPIC! mordheim is jawsome!

I do love Mordheim, and have multiple warbands kicking around. I jsut dont know how my time will be this summer. Im playing on two ball teams, D&D and warhammer thu. if possible, so I might be out jsut becasue of that. I'll try to sneak in some games now and then though.

Right on guys, good to see there are people who want to play. We will be sending out invites to the mordheim group sometime in the near future.
Re: Mordheim
Hey Cam count me in too. I also have some questions regarding Mordheim I wasn't able to locate on my first glance over the rules. Do models gain +1 Attacks when they charge like in 40k? Do Henchmen have any sort of cohesion requirements? Does magic work in the same manner as Warhammer Fantasy? I think that's all for now. Cheers.

Re: Mordheim
Ill answer those for you.
No, no and no.
Those are definitely all laid in the rules quite clearly. Models charging get to attack first , like fantasy. It's a skirmish game, each model is it's own unit and operates as such. I think you've got 40k on the brain! And for magic, it's less powerful than the regular fantasy game and there are special magic tables in the rulebook. Otherwise the casting process is the same.. roll 2d6 beat the difficulty of the spell.
Cam's co-opting things with Ryan so they'll probably release a type of faq. After all the leagues that were run, a list of house rules almost had to be formed. They are probably kicking around on the yahoo mordheim site somewhere, but Im not sure how the current edition of the book is. They might of taken care of all of that. (like using two spears, I dont think you can do that anymore?)
But I would recommend reading the rulebook. I'm sure if your wondering about the three questions above you'll have alot more questions to ask.

Re: Mordheim
The old Mordheim site has a bunch of house rules and other information from leagues of the past. Ryan is cleaning it up and then we will open it up once more. We are thinking about doing a intro to mordheim night where people can show up and play a few games to learn, or brush up on the rules. We are still planning, but it will probably be a kind of friendly tournament where everyone plays several games, while Ryan and i help newer players with the rules. Oh and they did get rid of the 2 spears in the latest rule update.
If you want to get a good grip on the game you should read the main rules, and all the additional books as well. The campaign book will be very important.
As far as timeline, we will be looking at kicking things off in about a month, as both of us are pretty busy at the moment. In the meantime i would encourage people to play a few friendly games to get a feeling for the rules. Just dont let it interfere with your 40k
Good to see there is a healthy amount of interest.

Re: Mordheim
Thanks Robyn and Cam, yeah Robyn I did find a couple of the answers I was seeking by reading through the rulebook more thoroughly. I've been playing a few practice matches between trial Witch Hunters and Marienburger lists I've been toying with. So far I think I'm liking the Marienburgers.
If anyone is free and interested, since I finally have the opportunity to play Mike and I'd playoff match this weekend and will be at the Den Saturday, if anyone wants to meet up and have a fun Mordheim trial thinger I'd be interested. Let me know.

Re: Mordheim
Hey Justin, ill have you a quick game on saturday. I need to brush up on the rules myself. Between Ryan and myself, Ryan is the rules guy. He many many leagues under his belt, whereas i have only played in one league. Hopefully i can get it down pat by the time the league starts
Re: Mordheim
Hey Cam,
Sounds good. What time works for you?
