long time
Hey guys its been a long time since i visited the site. No idea what is happening. Been thinking about a career switch. Does anyone know anything about farming. Im kinda looking for someone who can tell me at length whether its possible to make money, or how to get into it. I have always thought it looked awesome. Maybe ill just buy a tractor and rent out my services. Ill call myself a Farmerc
Re: long time
Well, James Commander of Ul would probably be the person to talk to for the most recent info, but here is what I know.
Ask yourself these questions: Do you have land entitled to you through family connections? Do you have serviceable equipment available to you so you can engage in the act of farming?
If the answer is no to any of the above, I would say stay the hell away. Farming is incredibly expensive, labor intensive, and luck-based. I used to work for Ag Canada, and one of my co-workers decided to up and start farming with her husband. They got some land, got some equipment, and owed close to a million smackers to the bank for their trouble. On top of that, their land was pretty =I=censor=I=, and they estimated it would take at least 4 years before they could actually start producing on it.
In my opinion, if you want to farm, contact a local farmer and offer your services on a part-time basis, just for kicks.

If your serious PM me and I'll give you a taste of my world. The risks and the gains. If you don't already have land coming your way... well I wouldn't think about it... Buying the land is the first step. Then you need equipment that works. You MUST have a good credit rating your you will never get parts, fert, chem, feed, mineral, investment loans, rentals or custom work. If you grew up around a farm then you know what it takes. If you didn't and you have some coin to spend invest it in energy or resource based stock.

Re: long time
Well i have been wearing a straw hat lately to develop some farm cred. My ACTUAL credit rating isnt that good though.
Re: long time
lol, unless you inherit a farm cam you should probably just pretend farming doesn't exist...

Re: long time
Well, though i am saddened by the news that i dont have the means to farm, i will take heart in the fact that i seem to have discovered one of natures governing principles. It is now obvious to me that people who wear straw hats are all quite insane. Hopefully i will be able to overcome my obsession with this hat so i can begin to live a normal life once more.
