Saskatoon GW Gaming Comunity Site

Hey guys, im getting to the point in my classes where i need to come up with a fairly extensive website as a final project. I think that i am going to start putting together the foundations of a Saskatoon gaming community site, with the focus being GW games. The project needs to be 4-10 pages, and there are a number of different criteria that need to be satisfied. By meeting the project requirements i think i could come up with something functional.

I wanted to put this up as a kind of a think tank post. I would like to see what you guys think of the idea, and i would like to get suggestions on what the site should include. For now i want to make sure i include 40k, fantasy, bloodbowl, and possibly mordheim. Down the road some of the other games could be added if there is interest.

Was thinking about including pages on each of those games, with links to the forums and other useful material for each game system. Considered a page devoted to the den, and the gaming space that is available. Maybe a painting page with the hopes that painting sessions at the den will be a regular thing.... dunno, news and events page...

So yea, if anyone has ideas please hit me.

One major thing that will be needed is a name, and im bad at that kind of thing.

When it comes to web design I'm not much on the content of things, but I do know a bit of the technical and design sides, having done a few web pages myself and running my own website (which I neglect to work on, heh). So I have some questions (and ideas) relating more to the functionality and the hows, not really what's on it.

What class is this for? I.e. "web design", some sort of programming class...

Do you have access to client-side or server-side scripting? Any databases? What languages (if any) do you have access to? What are the server specs? Does it run Windows/Linux, what optional modules does it have (such as GD)?

Some suggestions, some of which may be obvious but I don't know what you know:

-It should be valid HTML (4.01) or XHTML (any flavour) so it automatically works on all browsers (except IE, which requires additional headaches to make it funcional)
-Avoid JS!!! Most pretty JS effects can be done using CSS


Oh, and if this goes beyond the scope of the academic project, I would gladly offer some server space (if needed) and help with the coding/design aspect.
