Apocalypse Idea.
Awhile back I was reading about an apocalypse match that was played almost like two separate games, on two maps that weren't joined in any way really. One battle was being fought on the ground, between Orks and Imperials, and simultaneously a space battle was being held on another table on an Ork battleship. The battleship provided the Orks with a powerful orbital gun blast every round and deep striking from transporter relays, and these bonus's were later transfered to the Imperial in the late part of the game when the space marines did what they do best and eliminated the Orks on the ship. The marines then used the transporters to join planet side battle, leaving just enough troops to hold the gun control objectives.
After seeing the newest version of space hulk, I thought it would be cool to use the layout as an actual map for a 40k match, with long hallways for firefights and tight close combat, using just footslogging soldiers. I also think this would be a good way to include people with perhaps smaller or limited armies, in an epic apocalypse game. Anyhow thats just an idea I had/stole.

I like the two tables idea, having effects from one game in the other, adds a sense of grandeur. The space hulk... not so much. if it was played via space hulk rules mabye, but I see lotsa home rules needing to be played to make it fair and fun.

The battle report you might be referring to is the battle for Armageddon report that was one of the best things WD has ever produced, spanning 2 issues and 4 tables. The main table with steel legion, blood angels, and salamanders vs. orks. The Imperial artillary table with 4 basilisks allowed to shoot at the main table with imperial guard protecting them from orks. The ork rok in orbit firing orbital bombardments on the main table with Black templars boarding and trying to stop them. And lastly the ash wastes with speed freaks vs. White scars where any units leaving the opposite table edge came on behind the enemy on the main table. It was awsome! And now with apocolypse and some pre-planning and a full Saturday could be done.
I agree with Paz on the SpaceHulk, and I just can't see it working for regular 40k rules. Like he said you'd need a ton of house rules and very very few models, maximum two squads just because of the size.

Re: Apocalypse Idea.
We've been talking about a multi-table apocalypse match for a few weeks now, but hadn't figured out exactly what kinda stuff to do for it, these sound like some good ideas. Something like this would definitely be fun, multiple boards that affect each other in various ways, and some of them may connect so troops can travel between battlefields.
I think we should work on setting up a scenario like this for a week or two in the future, see how many people we can get and what interesting ideas people have.

Well I think the title should be changed to Apocalypse Idea's and everyone can post their thoughts about what can make an epic Apocalypse scenario.
One thought I had was on the main board a neutral objective is protected by a force field and the controls for bringing it up and down are on the secondary board.

One of the best games I've ever had was with no strategic assets except each objective marker held conferred an asset.
