I'm hearing that guard are getting lasguns at str 3 ap 3 is that right?

Hellguns will be str3 ap3 which are what the storm troopers carry. Officers and sergeants will alos have access to these weapons. They will be range 18" rapid fire instead of range 24"

I was down at the den last night reading the guard book. There of course were no surprises, except for the hot shot lasguns.. I must of missed that completely becasue I was pretty shocked when I saw it.. they get the hot shot lasguns and hot shot las pistols!

Everything is good in the book.. I dont know what to take.. !!

I think Ill definitely be taking a psyker squad with a primaris psyker. I also really like the astropath just becasu eit fits in with having lots of psykers.. and Ill be taking penal legions and specials weapons squads with demo charges.. ! I dont if I like the idea of being able to take three in one squad.. I think Ill take two.. but if you get a bad deep strike and are out or range, they are much dead .. enemy cant afford to let those guys live.

i like everything in the book as well. i'm especially happy about the special characters available. sentinels are going to be in the core of my army as well as lots of heavy weapons and artilliary.

Everything about the guard got better.. cheaper guys, better EVERYTHING.

The only negative Ive heard so far is they took away power fists from Commisars.. why they did this I have NO idea.. it's retarded tsince they've been producing fisted commissars for years.. although I forgot to check last night to confirm it.

I bought a ton of necromunda figures a couple years back on the basis I was going to turn them all into chaos cultists for an alpha legion army.. then the chaos book came out and destroyed that dream. That being said, they are perfect penal troopers.. Have you seen the penal rules.. ? They are crazy! They can take down tanks with knives.. if you get the knife fighter one.. I dont know how the hell some crazed human convict can destroy a 41st century battle tank with his knife.. but its within the rules and not to hard either.

Once I get settled into my new place and get some income rolling again I am probably going to look at getting into the guard. I might sell off my Space marines to do so... I don't know yet, but i haven't even looked at the codex yet and I like what I see/hear.

I hope you can take commissars and/or priests with rough riders again. I had some awesome conversions started before I got the bad news...

You can find a torrent of the codex on thepiratebay.org to keep you satisfied for a week until the codex comes out Razz

Commissars can take power fists in the comand squads of infantry platoons but not while in infantry squads (commissars are an upgrade bought for units now)

Its so hard to decide what to take!!

Some interesting facts: Storm troopers vs marines are an even fire fight however they now cost 16pts per model

Armoured sentinels are cool, but are exactly the same points as a chimera

Infantry squads are 50 pts now, but plasma guns are expensive...las cannon plasma gun squads are 85 pts (same as they were two codexs ago...

rough riders....still suck....

Veteran squads are now troops choices!

Command squads basically give you a colonel and veteran guardsmen (BS4) for free!!

All characters come with a invulnerable save!
The cool aspects of the last codex (doctrines, certain war gear items) are no longer

Alot more options, and availability for cheaper costs in troops which is the majour need for guard
