Ghost Arks and Doomsday Arks are Bad (IMO), Discuss.

cheers for trolling thread title :-)

Ghost Arks are bad, why are they bad? If I could list 115 reasons, that'd be a reason/point, but I don't think I can find that many reasons.
- Strength 4 shooting is bad
- Being Encouraged to take terrible troops is bad (they also have S4 shooting)
- It's special ability is "meh" resurrect D3 terrible troops?
- Using it as a platform for two elidrich lances (S8 AP2) is middling. As cool as that sounds, it's 135 pts for the MSU + Lances, + 115 for the Ark, and then you're encouraged to take more crappy warriors.
- It's not fast
- It's open topped
- It's 115 points (15 points more than the superior Night Scythe)

Doomsday Arks are also bad. Why?
- It has to stay still to shoot it's "good" gun. S9 AP1 Large Blast 72"
- It's not fast
- If it moves, it's gun is a souped up grot blaster, S7 AP4 Small Blast 24"
- It's other guns are S4, and therefore, suck. (Take that, two ork boyz!)
- It's 175 points! That's the same cost as the superior Doom Scythe, Almost twice the cost of an Annihilation Barge!
- It's open-topped.
- Compare to an Annihilation Barge. Same Speed, Same Armour, both Open topped, the Barge has a average second gun (S6 AP - Assault 2 or S5 AP3 Assault 2). Barge has S7 AP- Heavy 4 Twin-linked Tesla on the move, while the Ark has S7 AP4 Small Blast, unless it didn't move)
- In the Ark's defense, a 72" High Strength and AP gun in the Necron Army solves some logistical problems, but I'd rather rely on other, cheaper things to solve those problems, like 10 Scarabs for 25 points less.

Doom scythe doesn't have quantum shielding. i don't think a one shot pony with 11 Armor for 175 points can really be called "better". At least the Doomsday has a chance of firing its cannon more than once. And scaring the shit out your opponent. if you go first, and if you lay one of those on the table, your either going to catch him by surprise, or affect his deployment drastically.

I agree on the ghost Arks. if it was Fast, it would be worth it i think. just for the transport capabilities. but its not, so why bother? your lances of destruction are 36" assault anyway. AND the stuff that you want to get into combat cant ride in the Arks.

The night Scythe has issues too. mostly owing to the fact that its a dedicated transport, which means its minimum cost is 165 points.
Not extremely bad, for a scoring supersonic unit with a gun that tears up other transports/shooty stuff. But the rule for the guys inside getting ported back to reserves when it gets bloweded up makes it kinda... meh.

I thought the DoomScythe *did* have quantum shielding O_O I assumed it did... wow. I better check that. If it doesn't, it's definitely not worth the points.

I'll be running 2 Barges and 1 Monolith or 3 Barges, I think, anyway. I'm all about the Triarch Stalker right now, best 150pts you can spend, IMO.

Mike is correct, no shielding on the Doom Scythe. Have you tried the Stalkers out? I think they're cool, but have yet to see any played. Has the HtH stuff been underperforming?

HtH stuff has been average. Sometimes amazing, sometimes not.

I've played the Praetorians without a Destroyer Lord a couple of times, and that's a bad idea. If you don't have the lord, don't take the guys.

I finally had the chance to read through the codex. The big standout for me were definitely the stalkers.. but the flyers werealso pretty awesome even without the shielding. But yeah..no models again for the really good stuff.. what a pain in the ass.

I had a game against paz last week and learned quickly that you wont be able to outshoot them. He was using immortals.. one unit with tesla, one with gauss. I had a unit of 10 grey knights.. with psybolt ammo and 2 psycannons shoot at them for two rounds.. and i killed 2 guys.. the immortals ended up wiping the unit out from shooting. But in assault they still buckle fast.

I think the book is fantastic.. theres a great combination of fun stuff, unique rules and good units.

I do think that the points cost between warriors and immortals isnt big enoigh. 4 points for +1 armoir and better guns seems like a great deal.. and while i think quantum shieldimg is fantastic.. i cant tell if the ghost is that useful enough for the cost yet.vIll have to see it in action first.

The scariest thing in the book for me is the traveler..especially on a barge.

You know.. besides the bonkers scarab firat round thing.. i like everything in the book.. and nothing quite as cheesy as characters with rad and psycho grenades.. which probably single handedly won me the game against paz.
