I posted a while ago about getting into 40k and i met some guys down at the den.

unfort im still in petawawa ontario getting ready for another afghan deployment.

fortunately there is a big 40k group up where i am (mainly army guys) im still learning from them. But i did decide to go tyranids. too bad i decided to do them before in sep and got a battleforce and a carnifex and tyrant before i had to do a couple months worth of workup training, and then off to california for 2 months of living in the mohave desert for even more workup training (gawd does it ever end?)

all of us on base are a little disapointed that we haven't had any time to play (me, its to learn) and hopefully when i get back to saskatoon in dec (its a while off) i'll have a presentable army to play with you guys.

oh yea, no one and i mean NO ONE plays nids out in petawawa. I decided because well, no one else and they are bad guys....but there is a TON of IG players lol.

i'll be around this week popping in and out of the den picking up paints and maybe a box or two to put together

Army guys playing IG? Sounds right to me, it'd definitely be the kinda force they can identify with. (What's that say about the nurgle players? *shudder*)

Anyways, good luck getting your game-on with the army buds, and we look forward to seeing you at the Den whenever you become available.

IF you do want to get a game or two in before you ship out again, there's more than enough people around that'd be willing to help you out with any learning you still need (AND we have several tyranid players if you need pointers on list design/play/painting/modelling/anything)

Also if you're army's not 'done' yet, don't worry. I know from experience that there's several people around who're willing to accept a couple 'coke can carnifex's" so long as you're making the effort to get the real deal.

right now im listening to some music and started to unclip the body of my fex as im typing this.

im planning on magnetizing this beast.

here in saskatoon i only have a box of genesteelers (unmade) a fex and a box of hormagaunts that i just finished priming and 3 of 12 painted. oh and a painted hive guard. Would love to get a game but yea i would need alot of sub peices to actually get a decent army.

Had to take a break from painting. Hands cramping up from holding the gaunts and painting them.

Is there a craft shop around the city that i can get a wooden dowel to plant it on till im done painting? or something else you suggest.

right now im doing a paintjob that involves some washes. its not bad, easy to do for hordes and ive copied it off a guy that posted it how to do it on another forum in ontario.
but any help is welcome

Hows the leagues around here? more then 5-6 people? theres not alot in petawawa, we'd have to go to ottawa and theres some serious elitest people there where us army guys just want to have a good time and drink some beer before, during and definately after a game.

I'll see if i can find a digital camera around here and post a pic of my paintjob, i definately know it its not as good as some of the other ones ive been looking at on these forums

Well, You'll have to wait for one of the more artistic members to answer the dowel/painting questions, but as far as this:

Uh.. yes. yes there are. Lets just say we're currently discussing splitting the league into more manageable halves that meet on seperate nights. And I know there are a few people that aren't in the league around town too. S'toon's like Gamer central. You'd have NO problems finding someone at pretty much any points. Though we usually meet at the Den, so if you want to do some boozing it'll have to be after or play somewhere else.

And finally,
I'll see if i can find a digital camera around here and post a pic of my paintjob, i definately know it its not as good as some of the other ones ive been looking at on these forums
Well you're in luck, we have an entire forum section devoted to that kinda thing, and some very excellent artists who can give pointers/tips/feedback. *Cough* paz *Cough*

Hardware stores sell dowels, although personally I just use blue-tac (sticky tac is a more common name for it I think) and a Citadel paint pot. For 25mm and 40mm bases it's perfect. For things like 60mm.. dunno, have yet to actually paint one of those =|

"dipping" your tyranids is a fast and easy technique to give them a good tabletop quality.

Look for Minwax Polyshade. it's a wood based stain but works great on minis; best part for Tyranids is that it coats them glossy, so you don't have to do that after.

there's an excellent guide on dakkadakka about it.
