Well i've finally converted my own daemon prince. I used the armour from witch hunter tyrus from the Inquisitor model range and added the limbs and head from a great daemon of Tzeentch. Its really my first attempt at anything of conversion. Let me know what you think.

Looks cool. Will be a very unique prince, especially since we don't see any Tzeentch big models to often. I see some inquisitoral markings on the knee's, you may want to think about filing them or altering them somehow. Looking forward to seeing it painted.

The knee will be filed. I just don't have a file at the moment. i might try shaving it off with my blade or adding some tzeentch looking effects to make it look not like an "I".

So ive got most of the colours i want on the model now. Just wondering if anyone could pass on some tips about how to highlight it properly. i removed the wings for ease of painting but they will be going back on.

Well the first place i would start is with a black wash on the darker parts.

Yup, with your base colors, it's time to start doing some washes. I would actually give the whole thing a dark wash at this point. The blue is pretty strong and uniform. If you get a black wash in the recesses, then do some highlights with just a slightly lighter blue, you'll be in a good shape. Just follow that rule for everything else and it's a good place to start! Once you get the first wash down, let it dry and for the blue and maybe some of the white, it might need another layer.. depends how smooth it got on and if it got into the reccesses evenly.

Well, Ive been working on my models a bunch the past couple days and ive pretty much finished some of em.
First here's my daemon prince. Ive reattatched the wings (with some help with paz) and painted everything up. I might still try some highlighting, but that will wait for now.

Next we have a preview of Ahriman in progress. I started working on him this morning and this is after one day's work. I tried out a blending method on his cloak and i think it turned out quite well for a first try. I like him because i can go craazy with the gold...Something from Greg HPIM1462Something from Greg HPIM1463

And here is my chaos marine squad that i was working on while ahriman was srying between coats...

You bet, coming along nice. You should definitely pick up some of the washes from GW though. Chaos black and Devlan mud and incredibly handy and they will take the gleam right off those bright colors and add a bit of depth. Easiest things in the world to use.. just brush it on and it does the work for you.

I've developed my own personal style for painting gold after finishing off like, oh, 60+ Khorne models. It's pretty simple, let me know if you want me to go through it here. Gold right out of the pot can get super bright and metallics start to suffer without some work with washes or building up from darker colors.

I really like the look of your rubric squad, they look gritty and not so bright like the others usually are (bright blue, whitye and yellow colors). All you need is some basing on them and your set!

Overall though things are looking great. Getting close to a fully painted army.. that must be some good motivation to keep moving.

I started using some washes on ahriman. The blue on the robe was done using asurman blue. Im still not very happy with the yellow on his cloak though. I want to yellow to stick but i think ill have to pick up a yellow wash to do it like a did the blue/white robe.
What kind of washes do you suggest to use on the metallics? i agree that they are a bit bright and plain.

Im also wondering what else i should do with my prince. Im not convinced that hes done, but im not wanting to put many more hours into it.

For metallics, I always build them up the following way.

Gold
Start with a 50/50 mix of chaos black and dwarven bronze. Then use straight dwarven bronze as a highlight. After that I use burniushed gold as an extreme highlight. I'll usually go in then with a brown wash (devlan mud now or waterend down scorched brown) to take the gleam off, and then do the gold highlight again, but quite minimally.

Silver
Basically the exact same recipe as above, but using boltgun metal instead of bronze, and using chainmail instead of gold. As well, use a black wash instead of brown for the silver.

Some people (and guides) reccommend using an extreme highlight of mithril silver on the gold and the silver as a last step, but I've never liked the look of this,.. especially with the gold. It's all personal taste though. I have used Mithril silver for other things like paint chips and stuff, but usually not for regular silver/gold work.

For Ahriman's robe, we're you looking at getting a yellow'ish tinge to it? I would probably recoomend starting with the foundation yellow as a basecoat, and them building it up by adding white to the mix in layers until you get a pure white highlight. I don't think using a yellow wash on a pure white cloak will give you the effect your looking for, as pure white down in the recesses of a robe especially will take away all your depth.

As for your prince, I think he just needs some washes to bring out the details and then a highlight of the same base color a tad bit lighter to accentuate that.
