As i see it a bolt weapon has the same ammunition type no matter what configuration it is. a bolt looks like a bolt weather its belt fed, drum, etc. I was say it counts for all bolt type weapons.

Althgouh i do not own the space marine codex.

i agree on the fluff side it should be all types but unfortunately the special ammo entry says only boltguns

You need a "special 'Boltgun'" to do all that ammo changing. You think the tech adepts have time to configure storm bolters and bolt pistols, what with all the power axe maintenance they have to do.

It's one of those odd wordings. It should have been covered in the FAQ they released last month that still stuns the *bleep* out of me that they wasted the time even writing it. However i've always had issues with the joke of a FAQ's that GW produces.

I guess if you say boltgun only is the only right way to do it.....

alternatively if you allow storm bolters then there will be another thread with someone screaming that heavy bolters be included...

Since there's no agreement with you guys i'm assuming that this is just as gray for the rest of you as it is me.

Thankks

From what I understood about Sternguard, they can use their special ammo in....

Boltguns and Combi-bolters only. That is what I get from the rules in the SM codex on p. 63

And that is how I have played them so far....

I would agree 100% that the ammo can be used for boltgun and combi-weapons, but not storm bolters. Combi weapons are boltguns with a one shot attachment. Storm bolters are "bolters" in name only, and are completely different weapons in terms of gameplay.

That would be my opinion on it.
