A terrain project
I have been making terrain by the boxload for a couple of months, and i thought maybe it would be fun to put up a few photos. Most of the completed items have gone to new homes, so I only have a couple pictures of recent things. As my next big project comes to completion I intend to put up a bunch more images.
First up is a bargain shop special. This statue began as a cheap italian replica statue, but after some imperial building sprues, chipping, bullet holes and paint I present to you a memorial of Malcadore the Sigillite.
And with a size reference model.

Re: A terrain project
Initially i did prime it white, but then decided to go over the statue with grey because of all the shadows. I then did a couple careful layers of white with a simple dry brush. The metallics took the most time, as they received at least 5 different washes to try and give them a weathered bronze look that does not show up in the photos at all.
Thanks Paz!

Re: A terrain project
I see I lost my other photos in this post, thats too bad. Oh well, on to the orky stuff.
Rocks are going to be a big part of the terrain. I have 4 completed, and have plans for a very large "D'eff Star" based on the star wars original concept. These are just the little guys.

Here is a peak at the crashed savage gunship that will likely be the centrepiece. This sucker is big, and next set of photos ill try to include a model for scale. I have also made a base for it to help give the appearance that it has crashed and plowed into the ground. Ill put it in the finished photos when the paint is on.

WIP
Here are some pics of the gunship with paint. Im hoping for some input on it. I can't decide if the white checks on the turret are ok, or if i need to add more white somewhere else to balance it out. I considered doing the toothy bits around the command deck in white, but I'm not sure. Its allot of work to paint white over red, and I don't want to do it unless absolutely necessary.
In person there is allot more contrast on the red. I used the stipple effect, and it somehow gets sort of washed out, maybe because the model is so big and I'm not getting a tight enough zoom with the camera. Any thoughts are welcome, as I'm really anxious to get this thing done and sealed. Does the red look too bland?
Once the paint is finalized ill put up some pics with the base.

Re: A terrain project
Fantastic stuff Cam!
As for suggestings, i think you should avoid too much checks, perhaps throwing in sole black panels to break up the shape. Have you thought about adding simple weathering, such as metal edging showing through thr red, or weathering powders to add age?

Re: A terrain project
Thanks for the input! Unfortunately I already did a bunch more white. Its almost too much in my opinion... perhaps I should do every second tooth black?
I hear you on the weathering and chipping, it would help the old wreck image allot. Its more work that I want to do, but at this point it might be worth going the extra mile. Below is the model in its current state.

Re: A terrain project
I think it looks great with the teeth white as well. But for sure.. some heavy weathering .. rust, metal, dirt and it'll fin ish it all off.
If you guys havent looked at the links Cam put up.. you really should. He made some spectacular crashed Ork "rocks" in the style of tie fighters. Awesome.

Re: A terrain project
Thanks SC!
There are a few more models to finish up, but once they are all done I will try to put up a post with pictures of each one.
Ginger, I was thinking the exact same thing. I might put a couple panels up in white, black or maybe just some metallic colour.

Deffstar
I had to take a break from the gunship, and put the finishing touches on the Deffstar. I really wanted to have it floating, but a floating terrain piece provides very little utility in a 40k game. Instead I just used a GW crater to give the appearance of impact.
Im going to try and make 1-2 more crashed rocks, and maybe a few other rubble type bits, then this project will be done. Hit me with any comments or crits.
And one for scale

Ork table as it stands
Well, until I decide what to do with the Ork terrain, I'm going to close the book on the project. Hopefully some of my negotiations will work out and it will find a home, but until then here it is.

eldar
I started doing some test pieces for an elder themed terrain set and I'm hoping for some input. I did not put a whole bunch of care into the runes, but are they good enough to achieve an elder looking theme from a distance? Suggestions on a better wraith bone paint recipe anyone? I know there is room for improvement, so fire away!
