To the fellows here who have made a few campaigns/tournaments. How did you make the maps. And make it available for us to look at? I'm planning on making a larger one that will take a few months to do so its not just a one day event with teams. Basically my idea is a sector of Imperial space with.a few planets in it to give it some flavour. With bonus material in it.

I dont recall any map based tournaments being run. For campaigns.. having a regular meeting set up to see the map/make movements etc works. Im sure I came across some online campaigns awhile back though.. look around the interwebs.

Your biggest obstacle will be the players.. and the organizer. Ive been involved in two where the organizers have quit, and a few where player interest have petered put. Howevwr, Ive been involved with some successful ones. You need a small group, preferably of people you or friends, so can whip them.into.place. You also need to.keep it short.. or have a good mechanism in place for those in last. Theres nothing thatll take the wind out the sails quicker then being half way through.. and having the bottom  chunk of guys lose interest because they can no longer win.

Your fighting an uphill battle.. but very rewarding if you can get it to.stick.

I've played in a couple successful map based campaigns. We found it was best to make the campaign more narrative and less focused on wining. A good campaign creates stories you can talk about long after its over.

We used the planetary empire board to make maps of planets to allow for easy territory marking. It also works well if you limit the campaign to two or three teams as opposed to everyone for themselves. I found people were less likely to drop so long as the teams were even.
