We did a tourney like this a few years back, it's fun! Really forces you to change up your list selections and think Smile

I think Planes ran the last Highlander event last November IIRC? Was a lot of fun, brought out the 'Nids with swarmy!

I like the limits for detachments, although the fort one seems weird.
CAD includes a fortification, so did they modify CAD to elimanate it?

I'd honestly love to see this as a basis for next league.

You have to take all of your troop choices before a second? A NY codex boned by that (I'm thinking last ed CSM with 5 troop choices.

The troop thing is a little weird, and utterly cripples some armies. I recall that when we did ours, troops and their dedicated transports were exempt from the "one only rule"

with the changes to make everything scoring i don't think the troop restriction is as big as it used to be.

Our Deathwing/ravenwing/deathguard type lists are impossible now. Which given the idea of the tourney is no big loss.

Depending on what you take as CSM or DA you could handcuff yourself. Any others.

Agree Jesse, not the end of the world. Just something to think bout.

Tyranids are also forced to take 5 troop units before taking a repeat.

Blood Angels only have 2 troop choices as well. 4 if you count the death storm death ccompany units, wwhich really the only one worth its salt is the Dread.

Only thing that I would like is for xports to not be affected by the highlander "there can be only one" .

At which point you run into issues with things like the Wall-O-Waveserpents/Ghost Arks.

I really enjoyed the last highlander format we used. Using one of every troops choice would be tough.

But similar to last one.. id love to play. Now.. someone tell how 7th works... Smile

7th is like 6th, but the shooting is resolved a weapon group at a time and psykers suck balls.

It's what 6th should have been.

Most issues are holdovers from 6th dexes.

I'm thinking more for rhinos and pods, and since I am ignorant to eldar rules, I don't care LOL

Then we argue about what X is.

I don't have a problem with massed rhinos. The former blows up good!

65 allows massed Chimeras

75 razorbacks

Much higher than that and you end up allowing everything.

I would think that transports suffer the same as everything... isn't that the point of highlander? No spam of any kind, or do we want just think kind of spam, or that kind of spam? Seems silly to me. Yes the format is a bit unforgiving to some lists, but is a small price to pay imo to get a variety of units on the board that normally you do not see.

Ah, here we go, the setup from last time.

http://huntersofthewarp.forumakers.com/t4236-1500-highlander-tourney-nov-16th-patched-for-easier-rule-reading?highlight=Highlander

Basically, can only take one of anything except troop choices. Including one only of dedicated transports.

We could do a "once all dedicated transports available to troops have been selected once, a second one can be taken"

So once you have a Rhino, Razorback, and Drop-pod, take a second. Eldar would be maxed out at two wave serpents (wave serpents representing the "cheese" to avoid, obviously)

This seems like a reasonable compromise. If I recall correctly it would give Grey Knights access to two Land Raiders, but then again, that new GK Codex is "oh so amazing"...

What is it that people don't like about spam? Where is the line drawn?

To clarify: (I'm generalizing)

A rhinos spam list is subpar

A drop pod or Deathwing list is fluffy.

Mech guard is annoying, unless they are Steel legion, then fluffy as hell.

Serpent spam is the devil.

Spam itself (to me) isn't the issue. It's the spamming of broken units.

For example:
1 Serpent-a-ok
2- definate advantage
3-major challenge
4 or more is the realm of beardy cheese.

I suppose it also depends on the general.
I could maybe pull out a 50/50 record with a serpent spam list, even with my rolling.
For you more experienced guys, 2 might have the same effect.

I'm not trying to call anyone out or start something, I'm just curious where everyone's line is.

I don't have an ussue with spam but seems exactly the opposite of what highlander is about. People start to get caught up that highlander should exempt their special snowflake and forget that everyone plays a different list than typical at a highlander event. (Not a dig at anyone just an observation)
