Hot on the heels of the Wolves... Grey Knights? Empty Hot on the heels of the Wolves... Grey Knights?

Honestly expected them to be further down the queue than this, as the codex works just fine and there are other books (Blood Angels, Dark Eldar) that I figured would be higher priority than the Daemonhunters. This also means back to back (to back again, possibly) power armor books. Wouldn't be really surprised if it is because of Codex: Inquisition being a thing now, though.

Curious new FoC, though. 1-2 HQ, 1-4 Troops, 0-4 Elites, 0-2 Fast, 0-2 Heavy. And something in there about rolling for reserves on your GK stuff on turn 1. Based off the German "leaked photos" up on BoLS right now.

And it already has an ugly flyer.

Apparently no new models, just box cast and (rumour) GK transfer sheets

I'm fairly certain this release will be underwhelming. I would love to see new kits and units. I don't think GW will dedicate the time though.

I'de imagine that not a single GK player will enjoy this one. can't possibly be any way that certain parts of the codex will fit the 7th edition paradigm.

I love using inqusitiorial units when fielding gk. However, the possibility of getting drop pods is intriguing.

New book requiring moar models with less content? check

reboxed units, some price hikes? check

gw, too much too quickly, not enough playtesting, every attempt for that extra buck.

From what I've seen, actually, the overall cost of grey knights has gone down in terms of plastic. It used to be $40 for 5 dudes, and is now $70 for 10.

Hot on the heels of the Wolves... Grey Knights? Empty GW WTF...

Post  Commander James of the Ul Sat Aug 16, 2014 9:22 am

...Warning.... incoming vox message maybe considered a rant... Warning...

Last week about this time I was happily in my man cave drinking coffee and finishing up a dude for a interceptor squad. I was happy. I was fine with the knowledge that my Grey Knights were at least 9 to 14 month way from a new codex. I was fine with the fact that I could paint them, but not field them cause eldar, tau, guard, demons, and now maybe orks would simply blow your thirty dudes off the table before you get in that 24 range of fire power. I was fine with that...
Coffee sip....
I was fine with that....
Coffee sip...

Because I thought with a new codex a year or so away we would get new toys... Not just a new book with cover art that looks like a talented high school kid did it... Grey knights need firing platform. They need something that can shoot farther then 24. They need a gun that is stronger then str7. And just putting a predator, vindicator, and a whirl wind is lazy. There not in the fluff. And repackaging the boxs is bull.... Yes you save 6 buck on strike squad over the purifier squad. But putting a landraider in a grey knight land raider box is bologna. Hopefully there will be a decal sheet in there that is ment for the greyknights... Hopefully
Coffee sip..

But here is hoping That in the new rules there is hope that the Grey Knight codex once again can be fielded on the table with out be blown off the table. And I mean a pure Grey Knight Army, none of that big brother inq stuff.
Psy Cannon range is increased to 36 and can be affected by psy bolt ammo
Strike Dudes get cheaper, inline with other space marine chapters, aka 2 pts cheaper
Dreadknights get cheaper... way cheaper.... Yah they are a beast to deal with but a flying demon prince is the same price as a dreadknight with heavy incinerator tele pack and great sword. And the deamon prince always wins that battle...
And there is more but I must get to work know.
Just my thoughts on the new gk release. ya I will buy the book. Dam it...
Just think this is rushed out. For God sakes even Trynids got more love then this. Yes Trynids get more love then Grey Knights... Sad
Final coffee sip.... What a shame

I'll be grabbing the book next weekend and taking the old 'dex in with me to comb through things comprehensively. There is still the possibility that GK LR are getting a new gun a la the SW Dreads and such, and until we see the book we won't know if there is anything new or not.

Not so much defending GW here as pointing out that it is a bit early to be saying that the sky is falling.

Hot on the heels of the Wolves... Grey Knights? Empty GK

Post  Commander James of the Ul Sat Aug 16, 2014 10:17 pm

True Planes true. I've just been hearing from some sources that every weapon option is going up in pts, but the troops are going down in pts. And that reminds me about what happened to stern guard.
I just hope Grey Knights get some love. Maybe even sky fire something. Or increase the range of the psy cannon if it goes up in cost.

I also got a codex on hold for me. Just hope the devil worshipers at GW didn't put the hate on the GK's. Guess we'll see in a week.

But on a brighter note. I took out my Drop Zone Commander PHR army out tonight and noticed I have a Neptune and a Zeus to build and paint. Awesome week ahead

Darklink has a mini rundown of GK on BoLS.

I'm so glad I ordered custom bases and everything for an army I might end up shelving for 3 years until I get a new codex. Have I mentioned lately how much I hate the Salvo rules.

This whole Lord of War thing needs to be addressed.  i don't see how they can put Draigo, Graz and such in the same category as an Eldar Reaver Titan or a Tranny C'tan....  it makes zero sense.

. someone at GW needs to be donkey punched and teabagged until they realize that people want something consistently playable and competitive.

edit : the salvo/psycannon thing i'm not too unhappy with as a player that doesn't get them. The statlines of those weapons never sat well with me. Removing Psybolt ammo from the codex is pretty crap though, it needed a points increase for sure on several platforms... but to just remove it?

Agree totally about the LoW thing.

About Psycannons. In an army that doesn't get access to any other ranged special/heavy weapons they were the workhorses. Think how you would build a marine list without: plasma, melta, lascannons. If I could take those options I wouldn't mind the nerf to the one special weapon that was actually any good. The other two special weapons they get were a slightly better heavy flamer (oh boy) and the psylincer, which is basically worthless. Even with the addition of force you can't put wounds on anything that it would be good against with str 4 ap - (possibly troll some demon players though).

I ve only heard of cut and paste rumours for the assasins dataslate.. id love to see them updated with some costing or something.

Tom- didn't know GK's didn't know how to use plasma guns. that sucks.

Planes... Psychic pilot was a little dumb in 7th. My rhinos and razorbacks give me warp charge... wut?

Looking at the leaked stuff. the entire book seems to me to revolve around the new GK detachment. Every unit gets to roll for deep strike turn 1. every unit gets to run and shoot the turn they deep strike. ... No paying for drop pods, no splitting half your army. pay for a coms relay and get 85% of your shit turn one, where you want it on the table. I'de build an army just based around that alone. But, since the tournament fix currently seems to revolve around making everyone choose a tourney specific FoC...

Well.. i scanned things yesterday quickly.. but went through it in detail.

Ha.. well. Lots of stuff i wasnt to concerned about.. inqusition, grenades, even the psycannon salvo change i could live it. For me.. loss of psybolt ammo on regular gk and terminators is the roughest. Doubling the points i could live with.. but gone... argh. Psyflemen dreads.. argh. Crusaders... *pout* Heavy bolter razorbacks..

That one thing changes my whole army...

Not a dramatic as losing Draigo.. but gonna have to see how to adjust it. All those power armour dudes are tough to wanna field now. Ill have to go through it in more detail and see how the powers can help out.

One thing didnt see.. did grey knights gain access to regualr marine vehicles? Drop pods, predators, vindicators.. etc. I didnt see it listed anywhere but i did see a drop pod rumour awhile back.

Apparently the elite of the elite means losing everything else.

That sounds.... interesting I guess. There is something to be said about null deployment combined with alpha strike lists.

If the FoC literally lets *everything* in the army deep strike, I could see myself having some lulz for a match or two deep striking in a Land Raider filled with Terminators, then doing the dissembark>run>shoot. That being said, I somehow doubt the deep strike rule will extend to the non-walker vehicles. Looks like I might be trading in some Grey Knights soon and finally be sitting down to build all those daemons I got . . .

all units have to be of the codex: Grey knights.

commander of the brotherhood: the warlord may reroll his warlord trait on the grey knight warlord trait chart.

rites of teleportation: all units of this detatchment may deepstrike from reserves on turn 1 instead of turn 2+. the reserve roll is still a 3+.
in addtion, all units that arrive from reserve via deepstriking can run & shoot or shoot & run after deepstriking.

now, wether this means that only units that could already deepstrike just get to come in one turn sooner, or that all units get the deep strike rule and then the above is up for debate.

Codex: Dreadnight + terminators is now in effect.

I'm himming-and-hawing on this book right now. On the one hand I could just skip it and trade in/sell off my army to progress one of my others. On the other hand I feel like I should try it out just to kick the tires and see what builds there are.

150 points gets you a 5 man Purgator squad with 4 Psilencers. 24 Str 4 AP - shots that potentially has instant death . . . could maybe kill a carnifex every other shooting phase? And no longer auto-wounds daemons on a 4+, so it can't even touch a Great Unclean One any more . . . I used to like the psilencer . . .
