Paint brushes

Any of you who have painted with me before will know that I generally don't care where, how, or what i'm painting with. I sometimes go for weeks without changing my water (which I would also be using for watering down colors), I use =I=censor=I= brushes, and don't care about getting metalics in the water I'm using. I always seem to scoff at anyone telling me how you should have seperate waters for regular paints and metals, to use distilled water and to never paint when you're tired, among other things. The reason is I've been doing things the way I have for a very long time and always get results that are satisfying to me.

But there has been a change lately that I thought I should share. On recommendation from Scott I decided to try a new paint brush. I went to Colours downtown on second and dropped $30 on a paint brush. The Newton Series 7. $30 on a paint brush, thats ridiculous, you might say. Wow, I am going to whole heartedly endorse this paint brush. The paint comes off the sable so much nicer, the tip has so far refused to do that annoying curve at the tip, and it cleans so nice and easy. I can tell that this is a brush that is going to last and actually does make a difference.

Getting it is funny however. I asked about the Newton Series 7 and the woman working asked me what I needed it for. I told her minature painting, and apparantly passed the test. She then produced a selection that they keep covered behind the till and went through them with me.

You will never regret doing anything I reccomend sir! It is a whole new ball game using those brushes. I still fall back to the good ole' small drybrush on occasion (like drybrishing!) but other than that it's my 3,1,0, or 000 series 7 all the way.

Two things....

-go get some liquid brush soap. Cheap at michaels or colours. Helps keep the investment you made in the brushes worth it in the long run!

-I told you about the counter thingy! I had to give a little more info before they would give them to me. Did they roll them all out on the counter for you?

They only asked me once and took my answer as good enough, and then yes they did roll them out, in their fancy plastic cases.

I looked at them a year or so ago, but i really could not justify $30 for a brush. I really doubted that they would make a big difference, but apparently i was wrong.

You really won't believe the difference until you try it. But also look at it this way, how much do you spend on brushes every year? The upfront investment is large, but the longterm savings is significant. I used to go to Michaels during sales and load up on brushes for about 50 bucks twice a year myself, not counting the small drybrush action I get from GW.

Hmm, I'll have to try this series seven out. Im sadly a brush destroyer, I go through brushes very quickly. I also do not switch water (except when Im painting on canvas!!). I work in 3, 1, 0, 000 and a thin liner, i think its 00000 (5-0). I really want to start going for the win with painting and brushes. Ive pretty much got as much as i can out of metals and layering, I want to move into NNM and specular lighting (but its so daunting ).

You described my brush use exactly Paz... I am a brush abuser. I mix paint with my brush, switch colors with a quick rinse in water, dont change my water regularly.. Im a brush whore...
