Drasmiran II

Post  Jpwoody on Mon Mar 03, 2014 9:02 pm

Well it's been a while, but I've actually made something. I present to you the first squad of my mechanized Guard.

Prior to base and touch ups

A bit better pic after being based.

A simple image re-size does wonders. Those pictures were over 3000 pixels wide, and my browser wouldn't even let me zoom out to see everything at once when it's that big.

Here it is down at a more view-able size:

Man, I've been looking forward to seeing one of those Chapter House Chimera conversion kits in the flesh one of these days.

It's been a challenging kit, and needed quite a bit of dremel surgery to make it usable. I'll decide after I finish this one if it's worth it to keep using anymore of them.

The bits from Victoria Miniatures on the other hand are amazing.

Just insane levels of detail

That's my experience with skin tones. 2 guys that look kick ass and have amazing expressions, then 8 lazy eyed lepers. (band name pending...)

Bit of an update, here's the squad's Chimera nearly painted. Went a bit overboard with Argellan Earth, and may have to scrape it back, but it's getting there.

A small squad of stormtroopers for your consideration.

(Slouch hats and groin protection count as carapace armour right?)

My model posts will probably slow down for awhile, as I have bitz on order and I want to wait for the Codex before I make any radical decisions. But, if you guys can stomach my writing, I may start posting some of my fluff for these dudes.

Those have to be from a third party company.. Gw doesnt have any heads that look like Dutch from predator.

Are you thinking of the floofy hats with feathers Matt? Those are from the Empire Militia and Trooper boxes mainly.

Ah yeah... I just took a flip thru google images, and I see what you are saying. Can't help but think they still look mordheimy to me tho, but the paint job is good Smile I agree with Mark, good skin.
I also like the basing.

They're another bit from Victoria Miniatures:

Again I have to say that her sculpts are great, and they are cast quite nicely as there was next to no mold lines to shave off.

Well, got bored of not building anything, and didn't want to mess around with any units before the Codex came out, so I thought I'd try my hand at an IA conversion.

I think it's coming along nicely.

What kits are those?

It is indeed the Chapterhouse kit, and it takes some work to prepare as the casts aren't always great. Here's a pic of my second one. I've dremeled away most of the excess resin at this point, and once I've placed and glued it in I've gone back over and applied a liberal amount of glue to the inside seams and then used elastic bands to hold it in position overnights.

So spent part of my weekend putting this together.

Overall it's a pretty neat kit. I think I'm going to go with the battlecannon+autocannon setup with it. Tactics wise I can see the chimera and taurox complimenting each other quite nicely.

I've been waiting to see someone do the half-track style Taruox locally! How hard was it to mount the Chapterhouse tires? Do you have any plans for the left over treads yet? If not, I'd love to buy them off you/trade bits for them.

Well truth be told they're not glued on yet haha. I don't think it will be too difficult as there is a flange on the taurox axle that fits into the inside groove of the wheel quite nicely. And if that doesn't stick I'll just cut some slots into the wheels. And I was considering a centaur count as with the front treads but they're too small for that. What are your plans for them?

I was looking at combining a pair of treads with a left over weapons mount from a fortification and a servitor to make an Ammo Dump manned by a munitorium servitor. Stays in place for the battle, but can be driven back to the supply lines for a restock between bouts.
