1500 Highlander Tourney -- Nov 16th, Patched for easier rule reading
1500 Point Highlander! Now more concise with FAQ answers baked straight into the core text!
Physical sign-ups are available at the Den and digital sign ups are available here.
Format:
1500 point list, with no duplicate unit entries outside of troops.
For out of the gate clarification: if a Codex is able to effectively ally with itself, through either a supplement or some other means, units in the allied detachment still count against the unique tally. Thus Imperial Fists allied with Black Templars would only be able to take one squad of Devastators between the two of them, CSM with Black Legion could take only one unit of Chaos Spawn between the two of them, and so forth. This also spills over into Chaos Daemons and CSM with Daemon Princes, I'm going to say, as beyond what goody pile they get to grab from, they are identical.
FoC swaps that put units into troop slots are fine (Cult Marines, Warbands, Tervigons, X-Wing, etc). Thus a CSM army lead by a Tzeentch Sorcerer would be able to take multiple squads of Thousand Sons because of their new found troop status, Coteaz allows for multiple Warbands, etc., etc..
Dedicated Transports are not counted as troops for the purposes of this format and thus only one of any given dedicated transport may be taken in a list.
Named units do no count against their equivalent unit UNLESS they are explicitly an upgrade for that unit. Thus, Captain Lysander would not impact your Space Marine Captain count, no would Typhus interfere with your Chaos Sorcerer count. Cases like Sergeant Telion, on the other hand, would still count against your Scout count (good thing scouts are troops!).
Squads that can be taken in the HQ slot, or as a supplement to the HQ slot (Heralds and Courts respectively come to mind), are not troops and thus may be taken once, but the highlander format does not affect the composition of the unit.
Forge World and Imperial Armor is allowed so long as you provide the rules for the unit, and the rules are not experimental.
30k is allowed so long as your provide the rules for the unit and take note of the following restrictions:
1) No Primarchs.
2) No Super Heavies.
3) No squadrons of Land Raiders, as it defeats the spirit of the format. The same applies to other vehicles that can be taken in squadrons in 30k that can't be taken in squadrons in 40k. If it can be taken as a squadron in both, you're fine.
4) 30k armies are bound by the 30k allies matrix.
WYSIWYG is encouraged and appreciated. If you need to proxy something due to the model being built in a different edition or codex (like myself putting all my Daemon Hammers on squad champs), that's alright so long as you and your opponent can tell what's what. No chew toy Carnifexes, though.
Three rounds at two hours each. With terrain already set up and missions laid out, I feel that this should be reasonable at 1500 points.
Scoring:
First Blood, Slay the Warlord, and Line Breaker will not be used. The mission post below has details on the individual missions.
Painting will be spilt in half, using the same scoring sheet as was used at Toon Con (I made sure to grab a spare one for reference!) with the initial 15 points reflecting how well painted the whole of your army (The Greyest of Knights, the Primed Black Legion, or Hive Fleet Tri-chroma), while the remaining 33 points will be dictated by a single representative modle of your choosing that is in your list. Rather handy how many people just did up an HQ each, with the Wild Card contest likely wrapping up by the time this event hits, eh?
Sportsmanship will be using the Yay!-Meh-Oi! scale that Beau has used previously, worth 10 points.
Signing up in advance will be worth 5 points towards total score.
Submitting a list in advance will be worth 5 points towards total score.
Score weighting will be as follows:
Best General -- Battle Points worth 100%, Painted worth 0%, Sports worth 0%. Sign up and list submission will be folded into Battle Points
Best Overall -- Sign up and list submission 10%, Sports worth 10%, Painting worth 30%, Battle Points worth 50%.
Best Painted -- Painted worth 100%, Sports worht 0%, Battle Points worth 0%, Sign up and list submission worth 0%.
Other Awards Scoring:
Crowd Favorite Painting -- by opponent vote. Tie breaker by painting score if neither tied individual won best painted.
The Horseman Honorary Effort Award -- Highest scoring individual in the Best Overall category that won no other prizes, not counting The Path of Victory.
The Path of Victory -- To be announced the morning of November 16th...
Prize Support:
Exact numbers won't be known until the day of, but prize categories that people can look forward to:
Entry Fee:

5:30-??? Communal fooding?
Battle Scoring:
Points awarded for matches will be scored as follows. With three matches worth up to 30 points each, and 10 points available from early sign up and list submission, there will be a grand total of 100 battle points available for scoring. Points are presented in the Winner/Loser format.
Victory with a lead of 4 or more points: 30/0
Victory with a lead of 3 or fewer points: 20/10
Victory by first tie breaker: 18/12
Victory by second tie breaker: 16/14
How did you even still tie through both tie breakers?: 15/15
Painting Score Sheet:
The painting will be split into two sections: army presentation and army representative. The army presentation will look at the basic level that you have painted all your models, where as the army representative will be a single model of your choosing which the bulk of your painting score will sit. The net result is that if one person brings an army that is completely bare plastic except for a super amazing representative, they will stand a chance of winning compared to someone who brought an army with three color minimum and an average representative. That being said, if someone brings a fully painted army AND an awesome representative, the other two are still likely to be knocked out of the running for best painted.

Re: 1500 Highlander Tourney -- Nov 16th, Patched for easier rule reading
Mission One: Magnetism
Deployment:
Spearhead (opposing table quarters minus a 12" radius from the center of the board)
Objectives:
Two (2) objectives are used in this mission, one placed in each deployment zone 12" from each table edge in that quarter. At the start of each game turn, both objectives move 3" towards the opposing table corner. They are not slowed by intervening terrain, and will displace models the least amount necessary to move in a straight line towards the opposite table corner. An objective held at the end of the match is worth 3 VP. In addition, every time your player turn starts and you are controlling an objective, you earn 1 VP. (Score cards will be provided)
Secondaries:
Who Wants to Live Forever -- If, while contesting an objective, your warlord either destroys a unit or is destroyed, you score +1 VP. Score-able only once per player.
I Want It All -- If you control more table quarters than your opponent, you score +1 VP.
Tie Breaker:
In the event of a tie, calculate kill points. If this is tied, best 2 out of 3 rock-paper-scissors with the Tournament Organizer as a witness.
Mission Two: Greed
Deployment:
Dawn of War
Objectives:
Five (5) objectives are used in this mission, one placed in the center of each table quarter and one in the center of the table. Each objective is worth 2 VP, with any objective not in your deployment zone being worth an additional 1 VP beyond it's base value. (When all objectives are placed, they should line up to make the |><| hourglass shape)
Secondaries:
Somebody to Love -- If your warlord is locked in a combat at the end of the match, you score +1 VP.
We Are the Champions -- If your army won more combats than your opponent, you score +1 VP. (Score cards will be provided)
Tie Breaker:
In the event of a tie, tally table quarters. If this is tied, calculate kill points.
Mission Three: Show Me Your Score!
Deployment:
Hammer and Anvil
Objectives:
Five (5) objectives are used in this mission. Two will be placed opposite each other at points 36" from a short edge and 12" from a long edge, two more will be placed opposite each other 18" from a short edge and 24" from a long edge, with the last one placed in the center of the table. This will center four of the objectives in the middle of the lines dividing the table quarters. (When all objectives are placed, they should line up to make a diamond shape). These Objectives are each worth 3 VP Troops are scoring, as per normal. In addition, Heavy Support choices can also score an objective in your own deployment zone, Elites can also score objectives in neither deployment zone, and Fast Attack can score an objective in the enemy deployment zone. Further more, should you destroy an enemy scoring unit while that unit is controlling an objective (even if you are actively contesting it) you score +1 VP.
Secondaries:
Princes of the Universe -- +1 VP if your Warlord survives the match.
Bohemian Rhapsody -- If, at the end of the match, you control a surviving unit that costs the least number of points, you score +1 VP.
Tie Breaker:
In the event of a tie, each player will be given the opportunity to say their choice of "She sells sea shells by the sea shore" or "How much wood could a wood chuck chuck, if a wood chuck could chuck wood?" ten times fast with the Tournament Organizer keeping count of successful sentence completion.. If this is tied, best 2 out of 3 rock-paper-scissors with the Tournament Organizer as a witness.
And yes, all mission secondaries will be named after songs by Queen.

I just have to say Tom, these are incredibly thought out and well put together missions. I really enjoyed the one we played for the finals match and I can't wait to have a go at the other two. Thanks for all the effort you spent putting this together.

I did a test list w/ a wagon, trukk, and a looted rhino. I think the IA stuff (junkas, etc) would work too.

So long as magnets can be described in the plural form in you army. A magnet gets you nothing, a pair gets you your two points.System Commander wrote:Good point. Re: 1500 Highlander Tourney -- Nov 16th, Patched for easier rule reading
Update regarding 30k and squadrons. If it can't be taken as a squadron in 40k, the same holds true for 30k for the purposes of this tournament. If both 30k and 40k agree that squadrons of a vehicle can be done, then you're good to go.

Ok I have 1497 points and I can't really get anymore
And also I'm wondering if that's ok.
And also i haven't really played these types of missions or even heard of them but I know the deployment and such.
Are the missions new ?

1497 points is just fine, one of the lists that's been submitted is sitting at 1480, actually. Just so long as your list complies to the Highlander format, you should be fine. If you post up your list in the Army Lists section, we can look it over and see how it would work out.
The missions are new, being based to varying extents on the core rule book missions. Magnetism is a spin on making The Emperor's Will (5) more interesting. Greed is a slight tweak on Crusade (1), and Show Me Your Score is a take on both Big Guns Never Tire (3) and The Scouring (4). Feel free to try them out next time you have a game, they're a nifty change of pace.

And more importantly, the secondary objectives are Queen songs.

There is a link to the online sign up sheet at the beginning of the first post in the thread, if you can't get down to the Den prior to the 16th. Just remember that things will be starting bright and early that day!

Yes, as they all have codex entries that are unique from each other.
