space marines up for pre-order
Got my LE copy of imperial fist cover. No black templar one just a successor chapter one. Blow to the ego there. Go from having your own stand alone codex to not even getting a cover.

$94 for a three man centurion box? Bleh. I have to say, though, since it builds both variants there should be lots of fun bits to work with.

Re: space marines up for pre-order
Hell with that....
$70 for the codex? (ten dollars more than others)
$50 for a basic tactical squad?! (ten dollars more than it used to be, and more than Wolf Pack, even though the kits are comparable)
$60 for a 5 man sternguard squad?!!? (this is AT LEAST $20 too high)
and..... $80 for the hunter/stalker...... ten dollars more than a pred or similar, even though its a comparable kit

Re: space marines up for pre-order
Well to be fair other than buying the codex I don't know how much Space Marine stuff I am going to buy. Depending on the rules I might get one or two of the new AA tanks. I don't like the look of the centurions even though they will probably be awesome rule-wise. Other than that my BT will be good, just need to tweak a few things and get my Grimaldus painted up for Black tide. Weeeee!

Blue Table Painting is anticipating a large number of orders for custom centurion figs, and they were planning to model them similar to how tech marines are loaded out with harnests and crap.

Reading the battle report in WD. The hunter must have good stats as it one hit killed a helldrake in the first chance it had to fire on it. And its 70pts. Hunters the.missile one.
Re: space marines up for pre-order
Not necessarily. Anything that has at least str 7 can kill a helldrake in one shot. You just need a 6 to pen, fail the invul, and 6 again on the chart. It does happen. Battle Reports are notorious for bad information.dusktiger wrote:Reading the battle report in WD. 3++ has some info on the hunter, str 7, skyfire and something like 4 or 6 shots. I believe it has splitfire too.

Re: space marines up for pre-order
The IPad codex has an army list builder built right into the book!
P.S. Tactical Squads get Heavy Flamers for 10 pts, which means that 997 of the 1000 chapters have figured out how to make a flamer a little bigger but Blood Angels, Dark Angels and Space Wolves can't quite figure that one out...

Are the sternguard/vanguard kits 5 or 10 men?

5, but you get a crapton of bits by the sounds of it. I think it'd be worth it to get one just for all the combi-weapons in it.

Got a look at it.... Yep lots of bits, you can literally buy a sternguard kit and a tactical kit and not have a single dude with a std bolter, still seems steep.

That'd be sweet if they built it into the other books. Aidan's getting a hardcover because he doesn't have an iPadmiv305 wrote:The IPad codex has an army list builder built right into the book!

Reading the batrep theres a squad of 8 that took a flakk missile launcher and a plasmagun. Yay.

If you can do 5-man with a heavy & special, it's on like donkey kong. The return of the "Tim Tech" squad.dusktiger wrote:Reading the batrep theres a squad of 8 that took a flakk missile launcher and a plasmagun. Yay.

This... so this. I don't know how it would work (I certainly am not buying a digital copy of the Space Marine codex after shelling out for the limited edition), but it would be awesome.Rhaevyn wrote:standalone app

Re: space marines up for pre-order
Its more of a army collection list than a list builder. You enter what you have and itll tell you what it costs. Its coined as being a convenient tool for keep track of the models you own.
Re: space marines up for pre-order
Sounds like GW wants some more precise data on what figs people are getting, as the kit you buy isn't always the kit you build.

Re: space marines up for pre-order
I'll try to sum up what I'm feeling.
Plastic character: same as usual. +$10 over what has been established as the price range ($20-25).
The codex: +$10 over what has already been established as an over-over priced format. 176 pages.... thats slightly less than $2 a page.
The hunter/stalker: decent rules. A Rhino chassis kit like the Predator or Vindi goes for ~$70. +$10 over established price range (sound familiar yet?)
New Tactical kit: *sigh* +$5. While a huge improvement over the old kit, this kits is basically the same size and bit count as the CSM kit or a Wolf Pack kit, both sell for about $45.
Centurions: The closest equivilent is Oblits. Sold individually for $30, or a 3 pacl for $60. New kit sells for $95. WTF.
Vanguard/Sternguard: sell for 50/60 respectively. These kits are basically identical to the DA Veterans, BA Death Company or GK Strike Squad kits.... all of which sell for $40. WTF.
I may get a stalker, 2 if they are REALLY good.
I *WANT* a Sternguard kit..... but it'll be down the line, if at all.
in short, it feels like a bad money grab. Maybe I'm being a killjoy, but I just don't like it.

Re: space marines up for pre-order
True, but most marine players have just about everything they want. The only people this really gouges are: new players (the new strike-force has good savings though from what I am hearing, something like 50 bucks? so not a huge deal), or people who haven't had the time to buy/convert the old stuff.
About the only thing I'm a little concerned with is the centurion box is 95 bucks. Depending on their stats/wargear they are sounding like auto-includes to deal with Riptides/Wraithknights. The Stalker/Hunter will be dependent, like you said, on rules.
If every box set goes up $10 it wouldn't be the end of the world. At least they didn't hit us with the Dire Avenger bat.
However, I did buy two Riptides not long ago, so perhaps I don't have the best perspective on pricing....

Re: space marines up for pre-order
look for retailers to start putting their GW stuff behind the counter. $95 for a 5x2'' kit that i could tuck under one arm in a jacket?
i wonder if they realize they sell plastic still?
only saving grace is i saw zero new CrapCast figs. so maybe that stuff is on the way out.

Re: space marines up for pre-order
in defense of finecast, their latest line has 0 problems. if anyone here besides paz or myself have bought any of the 4 new masters of the chapter, you'll know what i mean; not a single bubble, missing section, bent up part. for the price theyre asking, and the time theyve had to work on the process since first release, these are finally at the standard of quality their pricing claims them to be.
Re: space marines up for pre-order
Yeah, as mike said, I got one of the apocalypse masters of the chapter (dude with a pimp cane) and absolutely flawless, hyperdetailed finecast. looked like forgeworld.

My last three orders from forgeworld have been absolute shit though. Really unusable.Paz wrote:Yeah, as mike said, I got one of the apocalypse masters of the chapter (dude with a pimp cane) and absolutely flawless, hyperdetailed finecast. looked like forgeworld.
