Drones and Scoring Empty Drones and Scoring

Post  Aegwymourn Fri May 24, 2013 8:22 am

An interesting topic arose on one of the Tau forums that I thought I would share.

All drones are now - "non-scoring... non-denial" units.

This leads to an interesting discussion during "The Scouring" since all Fast Attack units (which drones are) become scoring. Does this in fact make drones scoring?

Probably would need an FAQ to be sure either way.

I would say "Yes" using the Big Guns never Tire as an example.

A vehicle is a non-scoring non-denial unit, except in Big Guns never Tire.

depends on the drone. if its specifically the drone squadron from the fast slots, sure. but any other drone wouldnt, since theyre wergear options.

I'll quote the drone rules a bit more, but they are no longer wargear Mike. I believe the wording is along the lines of: counts as a member of the squad in all regards.

if it counts as a squad member in all regards, it should score according to its native unit for the scouring

ahh, i'm looking at the page. drones "a unit comprised entirely of drones is a non-scoring, non-denial unit"

and reading how the drones survive if the rest of the unit is wiped, i see why they did this. if you took a squad of firewarriors with the max number of drones they can take, the drone counts as scoring for that unit. but if the fire warriors all die and the drone survives, then that first line in the drones page states that the drone cant take an objective once its alone.

so if the drone squad cant be scoring or a non denial unit cause its made of only drones, then that rule would override The Scouring then.

That was the conclusion I had made originally as well. However, as Mark pointed out neither are Vehicles according to the standard rules. And the drones rules don't say they are never a scoring or denial unit, only that they start as a non-scoring, non-denial unit. Like I said it'd be nice to have a GW FAQ just to be clear as I can see it going either way. Since I don't have drones really in my army any more I don't think it'll be an issue for me. Just want to keep people informed of some of the more interesting rule changes for Tau. It is to bad I don't have more free time as I'd love to write up a changes/tactica/what-have-you for Tau.
