New Eldar shifts the meta Empty New Eldar shifts the meta

Post  Lore Weaver Sun May 26, 2013 12:51 pm

http://faeit.blogspot.ca/2013/05/codex-eldar-what-we-know.html#more

Highlights:

Wraithknight, 240ish points, jump monsterous with insane shooting (either 2xS6 AP2 Heavy 3 small blast or 2xS10 AP2)

Dimensional Scythe rule for many weapons, always pens on a "6" (like a better version of Necron Guass). This weapon is represented on the new Wraithguard and the Bomber flier.

The Anti-Flier flier has 2 bright lances and a pulse laser.... so ya... Take that heldrakes and Scythes.

===

The battle report was interesting, but the Necron player took a really shitty list. Like... really bad. However, he also got tabled.

===

Book arrives next week. We'll have to see what's what for reals.

I've seen people saying the wraithknight is underpowered. I could shoot my whole tourney list at it and would do 5 wounds on average. With the entire army.

Neph fighter looks worse and worse. Str 8 blackswords!! Fixed. Str 7, ap4 I could live with.

Makes me glad I didn't invest in either of the Tau fliers. I might have to ally in my air support. I feel your pain Beau, my fliers are absolute rubbish in comparison as well. I still look at them and go "wtf, who wrote your rules". I just don't see why anyone would take them unless they really like the aesthetic. Which is fine as long as you don't play even remotely competitive opponents, or like getting tabled Rolling Eyes

Well Beau at least you sometimes pass that bad rolling off to your opponent.

Remember Belial and the Hive Tyrant having that purse fight?

Ah yes, the epic slap fight:) Doesn't get much better than that.

I'm not sure how much Eldar changes the meta, other than obvious stuff, because there is no meta to a degree. We've had 5 codexes, and a new edition in less than a year. And the codexes have been heavy to the backend of that. I think Taudar is gonna be popular tho, especially if the knight and riptide can gesalt into Voltron.

That's a good point. I'd argue that the meta is shifting so fast that people haven't latched on to much. What people have latched on to, even here, is Heldrakes. I'm making the argument that Tau and Eldar will mean a Heldrake gets one turn to do it's thing before it's gone, and thus struggle to make it's points.

Taudar (or Tau, or Eldar) will generally get spanked by my Daemons... (Actually, I'm fairly confident in that lists ability to generally hose most lists, except Trevor's Spawn heavy list... I have troubles with that one)

@Mark - I'm curious to hear why you think Tau would have trouble with Tzeentch demons? Don't they just markerlight your cover away and then BLAM?

Not to mention Tau are the first codex to have a large amount of good skyfire units. Makes those FMC a lot less scary when you have to pass a bunch of grounding tests each turn. Not to mention the super cheap sniper kroot for annoyance factor.

They can still assault on turn 2, and with a re-roll it's still not scary.

Going to have to get a game in Mark and see how it goes. Would be interesting to say the least.

Sure thing boys! Next week sometime?

===

Also, lots of poorly translated to english bits.

http://darogscompany.blogspot.ca/2013/05/eldar-codex-sneak-pics.html

highlights:

== Shadowseer is back to 2D6x2 range thing, no stealth & shrouding. Harlequins are 90 pts for 5
== Doesn't look like Runes of anything survived, completely re-implemented (one use only, deny the witch roll gets a +2 bonus)
== War Walkers are 60pts, but come with 2 Shuriken Cannons and a 5++ save
== Wave Serpent shield now turns penetrating hits into glancing hits on a 2+, can deactivate shield for a 60" range S7 AP- Assault D6+1 shot??? (might be a bad translation here)
== No haywire on Hawks? Hawks don't scatter on deepstrike
== ... ???? other things :-) Check it out, that's what popped out at me.

From a different source, Eldrad looks stupid powerful, being Level 4 and on a 5+ after casting he gets a Warp Charge back.

Holy jee willikers, the Wraithknight is $140.

My dream of building a 3 Wraithknight list is officially dead, although, one wraith knight and two wraith lords is still eminently feasible.

i will agree with mark that the Eldar might cause a transition into atleast having a few vehicles back in your list. If a wraithknight puts out that kind of fire power (according to WD, if you hit with scatter lasers they have the additional rule of allowing you to re roll scatter on your blasts making them hugely accurate) then you'll need some armor to hide in until you atleast get close. Also we have not really seen much of what Eldar is famed for, their psychic powers. The loss of runes of ward and wit makes me a bit sad but it seems logical to me haha. Will be getting the codex this weekend if its in, which hopefully will be, last time i talked to Darren.

All I know about the psychic powers are as follows.

1) there's two complete new trees making up 14 powers.
2) Some powers do one of two things, either buff your own guys, or debuff an opponent. For example, Target unit gains shrouded, or Target unit loses shrouded. One that I saw was allowed you to re-roll failed saves, or forced your opponent to re-roll successful saves (If I remember correctly, might've been re-roll 1's for you or re-roll 6's for your opponent???)

Love it!

Anyone else see how good Guardians are now? WS/BS 4 standard and Scatter Laser platforms make the unit twin linked with their new fancy rending catapults! Sure they're only 12' range but seeing as how absurd Wave Serpents are now you fly over, hop out and punch a squad in the face something fierce...

P.S. Striking Scorpion Exarch's get to hit at initiative with their Powerfist and it isn't unwieldly.

they should've worded Doom's description a little better. think theyre saying allies shooting at the affected unit can re-roll failed to-wound rolls and failed attempts to penetrate armour.
