Deathmarks Empty Deathmarks

Post  Necron Camper Sun May 26, 2013 6:55 pm

I got my deathmarks and I don't understand the
hunters of Hyperspace ability so does it mean that if I attacked a unit
With a 2+ it will hit and no saves or do the enemy's take a armour/involve save ???

When they show up, you pick a unit on the board and mark them. Every model in the Deathmark unit always wounds that unit on a 2+.

It's pretty swanky. Especially against the new Eldar stuff and big Tyranid monsters.

They're other rule is that they can arrive if one of your opponents things arrives. This is generally not so good. Just let them come in on their own.

They wound on 2+, it does nothing to their save.

You come one, pick Crazy McScrewball's unit and then shoot.

You roll to hit normally. You wound on 2+, regardless. They get Armor and Invul saves.

You get an easier wound.

You still rend on 6's, which does remove their armour save.

What it does do is make the math more favourable. (Probability is probably what you're doing in school now right?)

What are the odds of killing a marked 4 wound Daemon prince vs a non marked one?

Say the Daemon Prince has a 3+ save and 5++ invulnerable, T5 and four wounds.

===

Out of 5 Deathmarks, you get 10 shots, those hit on 3+

If marked, those hits wound on 2+ (average 6) (one rend)
If un-marked, those hits wound on 4+ (average 3) (one rend)

The Prince has to make 5 3+ saves and a 5++ save from the first example
The Prince has to make 2 3+ saves and a 5++ save from the second example.

===

Doing the percentage chance of death is quite the mathematical feat (which I don't feel like doing right now, sorry :-) ), but it's considerably higher when you force your opponent to roll 67% more dice. Each die roll you force on your opponent carries with it the possibility of failure. Deathmarks can force your opponent to roll more dice.

Also, Crypteks. The Despair guy with his AP2 flamer wounds on 2's with that too... which is ridiculous. They're two great tastes that taste great together.

The really big thing is the wounding on 2+/4+ (marked and unmarked) regardless of the toughness of the target. These things will shoot down a Carnifex or Wraith Knight with roughly the same contemptuous ease as anything else rocking a Terminator save.

If you really want to make sure what you're shooting at is dead, you involve a second HQ into this (first one being an Overlord to unlock the Cryptek). Adding a Destroyer Lord confers Perfered Enemy (EVERYTHING!) to the squad, allowing them to reroll 1's to hit and to wound. This lets you reroll half of your missed shots, and every hit that doesn't wound when your target is marked. As the math works out, it also seems to suggest that for every 5 Deathmarks you have Rapid Firing, the Destroyer Lord gives you another half a Rend.

5 Deathmarks Rapid Firing:
Basic, vs unmarked: 2.22... Wounds, 1.11.... Rends
With D.Lord vs unmarked: 3 Wounds, 1.5 Rends
Basic vs marked: 4.44... Wounds, 1.11... Rends
With D.Lord vs marked: 6 Wounds, 1.5 Rends

Throw the Harbinger of Despair into there, and against marked targets he is likely to cause as many wounds as hits if you have the Destroyer Lord in there, or hits minus one if you don't, I've found.

This starts getting expensive in a hurry, though, when you start super kitting out this assassin unit. For this load out you're looking at:
95 points for 5 Deathmarks
30 points for a Harbinger of Despair
125 points for a Destroyer Lord with no special wargear
100 points for a Nightscythe so you can insert them into ideal rapid fire range.

That all maths out to 350 points, but you're probably looking at giving some extra wargear to the Destroyer Lord in the range of 35-65 points, and plausibly another Deathmark or two at 19 points a head. That easily jacks things up to the 453 point range. Those extra two Death Marks takes the rapid firing with a D.Lord vs your mark up to 8.5 wounds and 2 rends, plus any kind of shooting your Cryptek may contribute.

Thinking on it, though, 453 points isn't bad for an HQ, the ability to surgically insert 14 sniper shots, a fear flamer, and a flier with Str 7 Lightnning-doom.

Ok I know this has nothing to do with deathmarks but
Imoteck's lord of storm ability says

D6 Strenth 8, Ap 5 hits
So does that mean that the strength is a D6 or is that the hit

D6 hits at S8 AP5

So, you go through your enemies army, one unit at a time. Roll a die, if it's a "6", roll another die to determine how many S8 hits you get. Say you roll a "4", then you get 4 S8 hits, then you roll to wound (or penetrate the armour, if a vehicle), your oppenent then gets any saves he's eligible for, and kachow!

Example.

You roll a "6" to hit my Rhino. You then roll a "3", getting 3 S8 hits. Rolling to penetrate armour, you get a "3, 4, and a 5" This scores you a glance and two pens, thus wrecking the Rhino.

EDIT: Games Workshop FAQ'd Imotek so that his lightning hits Fliers.

Sigh... lol Its ok, the new Eldar book is looking to be a pertty big power house (will find out in an hour and 40 minutes haha) So maybe now they'll be a better match for necrons Wink

Also Mark, your math is terrifying. Though the way i would look at it is from less mathy perspective, in the marked example the Daemon Prince should take 2 wounds from the armor and then the invul is a toss up though leaning towards another failed save. So i would say likely 3 wounds. vs the non-marked would basically be 1 less wound and the invul is still a toss up. (many a time i've seen crafty Mark units, i mean er, daemons roll those cheeky 5+invuls) Razz

One wound might not seem like much, but it can be a pertty big deal on those high pts cost units.

Remember, life is your potato, its up to you if you want fries with that.
